    Hi All
Im in need of some advice. MY son had a motor which he insured with co-op young drivers insurance. The policy was in my name as it worked out a lot cheaper and was the only way he could afford the insurance.
Late last year he had a minor knock and there was a small claim agianst the policy.
even though It was nothing to do with me would that affect the insurance on my main motor.

    Thanks
    Aaron

  • Wadley, look up the term fronting as someone suggested earlier. You'll find it closely associated with the term fraud.

Do you really think it's legal for you to tell your insurers that you are the main driver, when in reality your son is the main driver? No, it's not - you're deceiving the insurance company.
  • Worst of all he signed his post "Aaron", and provided enough details for any insurance company staff reading this (and they do) to figure out who it is.

Aaron, call the insurer and explain to them that you made a genuine mistake. Be clear that you are willing to pay the difference and just want to put everything right. Do it before they notice and invalidate not only your son's insurance but also your own.

If they invalidate your insurance you are really stuffed and will find it extremely hard and expensive to get insurance in the future. It may cost you thousands of pounds now but the alternative is worse. It sounds like you made a genuine mistake and the Ombudsman expects insurers to be sympathetic in cases like this, but it is vital that you come forward on your own first.
