Reduce tariff

Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I recently had to start using an old phone that only calls and texts after my contract phone broke. I've asked my network if I can remove data off my tariff as I will no longer be using it but they've said no- does anyone know a loophole? I've got a year left of my contract and I can't afford a new phone.

Typically you cannot change a tarrif till the minimum term ends. The cost of the now broken phone was subsidised by the contract, even though its broke that subsidy still has to be re-paid.

You could try asking if they can swap data oout for more minutes or texts..

No chance, I'm afraid. You either need to live with it or try and source a phone that you can use data with

Did it break or did you break it?

Thanks for the advice, guys! I knew I'd just have to live with it, but I thought it wouldn't help to explore all avenues and look for any loopholes.
And grumbler, it took an unexpected swim in the bath...>.>

Do you have accidental cover on house insurance? May not be worth it depending on excess but worth looking into.

The excess on most phone insurance policies including home insurance would be about £50 anyway so how about putting the savings you made by not having insurance on that and buying a nokia lumia phone for about £100. They have internet access and are quite a reasonable smart phone. Not many apps but you said you don't have much money anyway so won't be buying any.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
