Hey guys!
Right well!
I've had a Barclays account (cash account?) 4658 Debit card for Well over 2 and a half years... I've never used the account at all to be honest, maybe a few times for maccies lol and it's had about 74 pence left in it.
Around a month ago got a letter saying they will close it (if i don't use it?)
So.. i don't want that! i slapped in 2 Pound, and all is well i then get another letter 2 weeks later saying 'by the 28th of July 2014 - We will upgrade your account to a FULL CURRENT ACCOUNT (if you don't want this then let us know or just simply ignore this letter.
So I'm asking... what did i do right here? they seem to upgrade my account to a FULL CURRENT ACCOUNT 4659 debit card? i assume? it's now well passed 28th... I've heard nothing or had no letters yet.
So is this normal or just strange/weird?
Anyone else experience something like this? is it because they know i have a credit card with HSBC or something else?

Barclays of course have the right to do this, as do any other bank.
If you want it, ignore the letter.
If you don't, tell them.
They have seen activity on the account and obviously agreed to view it.

So is this common for banks or barclays to upgrade a cash card card to a full current account? even if i just slap in 2 pound? lol

I've never been a Barclays customer, so I don't know, but I think other banks have been known to do this in the past.
We're ex-Midland Bank family, and we now bank with HSBC (who took them over).💙💛 💔0 -
Very odd all this, I've just never experienced something like this before.
I was under the impression that when they send a letter (we're going to close ya account) its a done deal... but i transfer 2 pound in it (just to shut them up)
And boom!
upgrade me to a full current account? 0_o
Well the main reason why i never used the account was simply because it was a 'CASH CARD' account (i never knew that untill i got the card) 4658 Number grrrrr didn't close it, just left it alone.
if i do get a new debit card with 4659 number i'll start to use it more now.• HSBC (Main A/C)

Yes online payments has to be checked to see funds are available before retailer authorises payment
offline payment don't have to be checked but allowed
based on retailers floor limit.
Yes you can use of at pay @ pumps except natwest and rbs online debit cards0 -
My wife has a cash account with them, she also received the same letter which said that if ignored the account will be changed to a BANK ACOUNT and I think it was yesterday that her online shows it's a bank account now instead of cash card.0
