May be it's a cunning plan of a First Trust Bank employee to drum up some new business for FTB? As nobody would take the warning by the OP serious, people might be tempted to explore the bank. As it is a UK regulated bank that participates in the FSCS scheme, I would have no qualms having accounts with them in principle. Sadly, they don't offer me any value (e.g. joining bonus, good interest rates) so I'll wait until they do.

Sometimes i'm amazed how blinkered people. Are they are two separate incidents that happened, and whilst FTB are supposedly regulated, when it comes to credit scoring this is manual and underwritten nothing to do with scoring, it's the branches decision.

And actually we have evidence for all mentioned, including photos and letters and emails from the bank, and their admittance of breach of data protection.

So you claim. The problem is that it's not uncommon for people to hold an irrational grudge against a company and then invent some story to unfairly discredit them. It is more probable that you fall into this category and it doesn't matter how much evidence you have if we are unable to verify it.

    What a load of rubbish.

NO bank would make lending decisions based just on a branch decision.

FTB aren't 'supposedly regulated', they are regulated and authorised by the FCA/PRA. It is entirely down to them where they carry out their credit scoring, and they are not compelled to give every applicant a loan. If you have proof for homophobia or other irregularities being part of their scoring process, you would have a justified complaint that you could take all the way to the FOS, and may be even to a Court. If you don't have proof - as others have said, perhaps you should edit your post as it could be considered libelous.

It would be interesting if we could hear the story from FTB's side, but unfortunately that will never happen. As you seem to have settled for a moderate £500 compensation, it can't have been quite as dramatic as you would want us believe. For example, forging a signature on a credit card application is fraud but you don't mention that you reported this to the Police. You just accepted £500 for this, and allegedly a whole litany of other issues.

Also, as it appears that the bank is now declining to offer you their services, there must be a whole lot of other facts to this story. Banks don't stop doing business with customers who have raised a justified complaint. They do, however, offer some people some money to close a complaint even if they don't admit liability, as it is cheaper for them to pay some cash rather than have to continue to deal with the complainant.

They left my partner stuck in Paris when their systems went down.
As mentioned in your other thread, travelling (even inside the UK) with just one source of cash is an unnecessary risk. You/your partner should be able to avoid getting stuck abroad if you equipped yourself with a couple of alternative means of payment. It certainly is not the responsibility of a bank if you don't - it is your own decision how much risk you want to take.

When we complained they made us wait the full 8 weeks
All financial institutions have 56 days to deal with customer complaints. All consumers have the right to take their complaint to the FOS if they are not satisfied with the outcome of their complaint.

We don't know - are they?
  • Whilst I'm not taking the OP's side whatsoever, some small bank's, such as Handlesbanken and I believe a Scottish Savings Bank (and I presume a few building societies) still manually underwrite all loans and credit products. This may be the case, with First Trust Bank, but even in these cases, the companies still use Credit Reports, as one part of evidence in the underwriting process, which are usually required as part of TCF regulations.

OP - If you're really unhappy, why don't you move your banking relationship elsewhere and take your 'final response' letter to the Financial Ombudsman Service and get an Ombudsman to make an 'impartial' judgement?
