South Staffordshire Water- Messed up my garden refuse to pay compnesation

Options
Hi

South Staffordshire Water dug up my garden in order to do some maintenance. They left it dug up for a few months.

When I complained and asked for £100 as gesture of goodwill they said "The new tenants didn't mention it when they called so we won't pay a penny."

Very unreasonable IMHO.

Anything I can do?

I don't understand. If the house is let, then the water account is presumably in the name of the tenants? So any complaint is up to them.
How can you have suffered any actual loss if you are not living there?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • You said for a few months so is it back to normal now and if the house is let out surely it is the tenant who had to live with the problem ?

    Thanks for the replies.

Old tenants didn't pay rent, council tax, gas, electric and water.

South Staff Water caused me problems as I had to let the house out and the front garden looked terrible (especially compared to the neighbours who keep their pristine).

But that has nothing to do with SSW...did you request them to make the damage good?

What they said was we can't pay compensation because we have the call recorded when tenants changed to their names and they didn't mention the damage.

True, but we didn't know who was responsible at that point in time. There was a possibility the old tenant did it out of malice (a known troublemaker who never paid council tax, water, gas, electric and rent).
