But I am paranoid enough to be afraid of being a first test case.

Do you also wear a crash helmet every day in case the sky falls down - the odds on it happening must be shortening rapidly given the trillions of years it's been up there.

Smart Parking in a court in N Ireland has longer odds - they've never done one in England or Wales where the prospects would be far better than in NI.

Interesting! But I am paranoid enough to be afraid of being a first test case.. I got parking notice on Saturday fro smart car parking about an overstay of 12 minutes in Bangor marina car park. Charge = £80. I had queued at pay kiosk for ages while a guy showed everyone i n queue in turn how kiosk worked - it's one where you key in your registration.

I asked guy for 2 hours )£2) and paid believing I had 2 hours from that point. Apparently not. I have been timed from moment entering car park to moment leaving.

So I have been charged £80 for finding a space with enough room for my 87 year old mum to get out passenger door, and for standing in long queue to pay in advance. Photos sent clearly show me as driver so can't say it wasn't. Do I ignore or appeal?

Ignore it of course. You have not been charged anything and anyone who pays is an idiot and a mug. I'm sure that does not describe you.

  • Hello Seven Towers, thanks for all the helpful information. I got a parking ticket in Boucher Road from our friends at UKPC for parking in a disabled parking space, they sent me a letter demanding £100 and a photo of my offence. I must apologise about parking in a disabled space, this is not something I normally do but as a new parent and unable to find a baby parking space, and listening to the advice of my wife who thought it was legally acceptable for us to park in a disabled space as we had a baby I committed the crime. However, does this impact my case or should I still ignore their advances?

    Ignore it.

Disabled spaces are for those with disabilities. How would a disabled person manage if all the disabled spaces were filled with 'parent and child' cars?

Would you park on double yellow lines on the same basis?

  • Thanks. I can honestly say I normally never do park in disabled spaces and despise people who misuse them but on this occasion I'm blaming it on the wife and adjusting to being a new parent.

blaming it on your wife will not help you, you parked the car and signs were no doubt displayed for you to read. But as said, ignore as you are in N.Ireland

Yep, ignore it and certainly do not be tempted to even fire off any response that gives away the driver!

All excellent advice, and being from NI myself I can assure you 100% that the letters are all bluff and bluster designed to frighten you into handing your money over to them.

Post 7 in the following link shows you the letter chain used by UKPC, be particularly wary of the "solicitors" letter you will receive, again another template letter that is nothing but hot air and idle threats.

Remember no PPC has ever taken anyone in N. Ireland to court, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and ignore, ignore, ignore.

Oh, and then ignore some more....

And there is no excuse for parking in a disabled space, you shouldn't have done, but don't even think about handing your money over to UKPC absolve your guilt. Any money you pay to UKPC will go to fund Rupert William's next Aston Martin, instead you could make a suitable donation to a disability charity, at least then your money would be doing some good.

  • Hi my car also got a parking ticket a while back mid Feb. on boucher road. They had been sending the letters to the address the dvlni have on file (mum's house) but I have come home today to a letter from debt recovery saying "due to there being no correspondence to this address, we have utilised a tracing service which have provided the above new address as your most current address" the charge has gone up to £160:eek: "we now require payment and we strongly advise that I confirm with the dvla that they hold the correct address for the registered keeper, as it is a legal requirement to update the dvla of a change of address"
Should I continue to ignore it? :(:(
