Insurance advice on new'ish car.
Thinking of buying a car from a private seller. If we bought, I would want to drive the car back with my wife driving ours. Can we get an insurance cover to get the second car home? It would then be put on the drive until our car was sold, then our insurance transferred to it.
Nice to save.

Unless you are going to SORN either vehicle then both vehicles must have insurance in place. You could simply add the new vehicle to the existing policy as a Temporary Additional Vehicle or alternatively to take out a temp policy (normally 1-28 days in length are the options) for it.0

Insurers are often happy to cover two cars for a short period.
Works for other insurances too. I'm moving house and my insurer offered to insure both houses for no additional charge.0 -
Just contacted our insurance company. They want £21-00 a week for maximum of 2 weeks plus a £20-00 admin charge. Is that right? sounds a bit steep to me. Our one year insurance is less than £200-00.Nice to save.0

Doesn't your existing policy cover you to drive other vehicles with the owner's permission? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Probably does, but only if that vehicle has a valid insurance policy of its own.
When OP buys the car, the old owner will cancel their insurance, leaving the car uninsured and so the DOC extension will not apply here.0 -
If they buy the car then its their vehicle and they need insurance for it.
£20 sounds cheap to me for 2 weeks. Try getting short term insurance for less.
Dont forget getting insurance elsewhere will mean not having any no claims to use on that policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

£21 a week plus a £20 admin charge = £62 for two weeks, not £20.What will your verse be?

That isn't a requirement of all policies.
The OP would need to check that, and any other specifics, of their DOC cover.0 -
I read £21 and assumed that was for 2 weeks. But still comparable to short term insurance where it could be that much per day.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
