My partner was aware of the debt at every stage, from in the black to where we are now.
Only just recently told my mum and she was quite shocked as she had no idea.
Also told a few friends including one who recently finished a DMP and one who is considering one (although he's far too wasteful with money to stick to one).
I don't go out of my way to tell people about my debt and newly set up DMP but if it comes up it's no secret.
After 10 years of accumulating the debt and keeping it between me and my partner it's nice to not have to make up excuses or feel the need to keep up appearances with those closest to me.0 -
My husband and the good folks on MSE knew the full extent. Some close friends knew I was paying off the credit cards but not how much. I never told my parents. They would have been disapointed and bailed me out. I needed to learn how to manage money for the long term.MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140

The main reason I told my mum was because she was constantly saying she could help, she was assuming my debt was a lot lower than it is.
So I told her the full extent and what I am doing to sort it and that I don't need help with it.
I did say that if something happens (like my car packing in for example) then I'll ask her for help then.
Used to be too proud to accept help, especially financially, but not now lol.0
