Hoarding Pre-Baby

Options
Hey ladies, apologies if this has been done I haven't been on for a while.

So I am hoarding things before baby three arrives, the usual baby wipes, shampoo, nappies etc. And I'm planning to breastfeed so I have a pump and I'm looking into buggies for expressed milk etc.

I was wondering firstly if it's worth hoarding household things like toothpaste, washing up liquid etc. Or is it better to just buy as you go along? Also what sorts of things you'd suggest hoarding other than the usual baby stuff listed above.

Have a great day ladies :) (and gents) xx

Is their much point to hoarding? I may buy 3-4 ketchups when they are on offer but you can be sure 3-4 weeks later another offer is running ~ wipes are on offer constantly so not much point their...?

Or am I missing something :D

I was thinking more along the lines of if I buy it now using money I have available, I don't have to pay it out when my money reduces while on mat leave? X

But if you don't buy it now you will have more money when you are on maternity to buy it then, so it doesn't make any difference financially.

iv just had my first baby and before she came I did a bit of 'hoarding' on things such as washing liquid, toothpaste, and toilet roll, buying it when it was on special offers. mainly because those things are pretty essential and I didn't want to run out in the early days in case I was rushed off my feet! nobody wants to run out of toilet roll :)

I'm at a completely different stage of my life, planning for early retirement.

But I am doing the hoarding thing.

We are going to have a period of about 18 months, before my husbands other pensions start, so we'll be on a lower income for that period of time.

At the moment, we are both working, and both already receive a pension, so we've got quite a lot of money coming in.

So, when I see things like loo roll and toiletries on offer, I buy now, when we have the money.

When we have less month next year, we won't have to worry about buying these things, so can spend the money on other things, like enjoying ourselves.

    Makes sense to me:)

I would hold off - with nappies and wipes, you can never be sure what type will suit your baby, so if you bulk buy one particular brand, you may be stuck with nappies that leak, or irritate your baby. Also, babies don't really need shampoo/baby bath etc when they're little so that's also a bit of a waste.

I'd save the money instead, then bulk buy in one of the many baby events that every supermarket has, once baby is here and you know what suits.

I am a top hoarder! My loft is practically insulated with toilet rolls from the tesco offer when you got cheap petrol!
Just discovered I am expecting baby number 2 so I will be hoarding! Not so much wipes and nappies as everyone else has said they will be on offer over the next months but I like to pick up odds and ends especially after baby events when things are reduced even more and I always have big stock of fabric detergent and conditioner etc!

I'd save the cash and use it when you need it, different nappies suit different babies, some are whoppers so are barely in size 1 or 2 for any time, some have sensitive skin and need a certain brand of wipes.

We used water to bathe our little one, no soaps or anything and even now a bottle of shampoo lasts us at least half a year, so no point for us to stock pile things like that.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

We had our baby in February and didn't get organised to do a proper shop for about three weeks... So having a well stocked freezer, variety of lunches and tin of biscuits for visitors was good! Our parents bought on fresh goods (fruit, milk etc) to keep us going. I'd recommend bulk buying any toiletries you'd rather not ask someone else to pick up eg breast pads, maternity pads etc. I got through more than I expected in the first weeks and couldn't get out to the shops for more due to my recovery.

I often bulk buy stuff I know I'll use for sure, but as others have said you may need to try a few brands/ sizes of baby stuff before you find what you like.

    Good luck!

You've put into words what I was trying to explain! Just from the other end of the scale :)

I think I'm going to stock up on non wipes or nappy products. I have a lot of coupons, the ones from the bounty packs for baby bath products and it seems a shame to waste them. I'm aalso going to get some money put aside specifically for nappies (I'm saving hard anyway.)

Thank you all for your replies :)
