Good morning
I used to follow this thread ages ago but getting a full time job combined with 3 children (one with ASD that is very demanding) meant I lost the time to keep up and I've become one of them shoppers I used to laugh at wasting money in T.
However, last night I popped into Adsa for a few things & this morning checked the receipt - have not had more than 38p in ages and to my delight had a fairly decent voucher. Most stuff was more or less the same price but I found a glitch!!! Knew there was only one place to share this:-
I bought :- 2 x hand wash Carex
They are on offer 2 for £2
But on my APG it didn't see that I bought bubble gum (only to stop Ds whinging) and it thought I only bought the strawberry laces.
So I spent £2 on two hand washes but it thinks I bought one for £1.78 which compared with Tesco at £1.
This was at 7:30 last night.
Sorry if this is old news to you lovely people ☺️
Hoping to get back on the money saving wagon as I lose my job on Aug 31st :-(0 -
Well coffee finished, so almost feel human, morning all
Ive fixed your post for you zippyzippydooda wrote: »STORAGE OF SUNFLOWER SEEDS
1
Monitor the flower heads on your sunflower daily when it begins to wilt. It is ready to harvest when the back side of the head turns brown. While the seeds may actually be mature before that time, the flower head is still moist and needs time to dry out prior to harvest. Examine the seeds closely. They’ll look flat and a bit shrunken because they need more time to plump up.
2
Cover the sunflower head with a brown paper bag to protect the seeds from the birds. Tie it closed with a piece of string to keep ripening seeds from falling out and onto the soil. Don’t use a plastic bag. Plastic won’t allow the flower head to breathe, causing mold to develop. Leave the paper bag in place while the sunflower dies back completely.
3
Remove the paper bag daily to check on the sunflower’s progress. The seeds are ready to harvest when the back of the flower head turns completely dark brown and the flower looks dead or dying. Most if not all of the petals will have fallen off.
4
Cut the flower stalk about 12 to 18 inches below the bag. Turn it upside down and hang it from the stem in a well-ventilated spot in a warm, dry room until the flower head is completely dry. This can take from one to five days.
5
Check the bagged sunflower head every day. Shake it vigorously. You’ll hear loose seeds rattling around inside the bag. Open the bag and feel the flower head for dryness. Brush your fingers lightly over a few of the seeds in the head. If they’re falling off easily, they’re ready for storage.
6
Hold the flower head over a colander. Rub the palm of your hand briskly against the seeds, which will pop right out of the bloom. Rinse the seeds thoroughly with cool running water. Allow them to drain freely for 10 or 15 minutes.
7
Layer some clean newspapers in the bottom of a shallow cardboard box. Cover the newspapers with paper towels. Spread the sunflower seeds out loosely in a single layer on the paper toweling. Leave plenty of space in between them to allow for good air circulation. Allow them to dry at room temperature overnight. Do this immediately after rinsing to prevent the seeds from molding.
8
Pick out and discard any plant material and debris. Sort through the sunflower seeds and pick out the plumpest ones. They’re the most likely to be viable. Keep them separate from the rest of the batch.
9
Put the sunflower seeds in a paper envelope. Label it clearly with the variety and date. Seal the envelope in an airtight plastic container. Store it in a cool, dry spot until you’re ready to plant. The vegetable drawer in your refrigerator is a good location. Consider the seeds viable for the coming season only. The germination capability of a seed declines with age -- the freshest seeds are more likely to germinate.
10
Store spent flower heads in a cool, dry spot. They make great biodegradable scouring pads for messy, icky jobs that you might not want to use a good cleaning cloth on. Use sunflower heads once and toss them onto the compost heap.

I've got 20 copies - but now I'm wondering if that's enough:eek:
So, what are people planning to buy?
Any recommendations about what keeps the longest, or how best to store?
I'm very limited on storage space, but have loads of empty jars, so was thinking of making some jams or preserves... Never made either, so might be back for some advice.:)
I bought the little dried packets of Fruit and nuts last time raisins for the kids still got some left but they have good dates on them0
