I've got 20 copies - but now I'm wondering if that's enough:eek:
So, what are people planning to buy?
Any recommendations about what keeps the longest, or how best to store?
I'm very limited on storage space, but have loads of empty jars, so was thinking of making some jams or preserves... Never made either, so might be back for some advice.:)
I thought about you jelly last time around and how much you would have enjoyed it.
Here's my take on it.
If you don't grow your own stuff then get lots of onions types that will keep in a cool place....shallots, white onions...lovely for soups, red onions etc. The usual suspects kept well in the fridge....carrots leeks etc and the sweet potatoes were fab. I got lots of bags of these. I blanched broccoli and peas to use in the winter when my crops have gone. I roasted loads of peppers and froze them in small bags to use in stews.
My preserves cupboard is full. I made jams and pickles and even made quickalilli which is easy to make. I bought apricots and made jam out of them.....a real luxury as they are normally too expensive to buy.
I bought stuff I wouldn't normally buy which was great fun....smoked garlic was a revelation...it's a great chance to experiment. I tried some new flavours of tomatoes and froze batches of ratatouille for deepest winter to cheer me up and help me remember the summer.
I par roasted parsnip and froze them too.
Any spaces left in the freezer were filled with packets of rasps, blueberries and blackberries.
Someone on here bought herbs and planted them outdoors....possibly scamps...but I'm unsure how successful this would have been.....I think they are grown to use quickly......but scamps might say differently.
Nothing was wasted. There were some oranges sitting in the fridge last week which were starting to look tired so I simply juiced them. It's been so long since I'd squeezed juice, I poured it into champagne flutes and added ice. Felt like the queen:rotfl:
Lastly, don't forget whoopsie time and your vouchers will go a lot further:)To do is to be. Rousseau
