Right of return without a receipt

Hi,
I bought 2, 4kg bags of cat food from Pets at home a week or so ago, and have been feeding the food to my cats.
It would appear that the good is very mouldy
Rang PAH and they said return it to the store, doesn't matter that I didn't have the receipt. Went to PAH today and they told me I couldn't have a refund, just a gift card.
Is this correct??

We'll, you could have bought it two years ago- hence why it could be mouldy. Do you have the purchase on your bank statement?0

I guess you still need to feed the cats? Just buy two more bags. It's unlikely they'll all be mouldy. If you're really concerned and there's another PAH nearby, go there as they are unlikely to be stocking the same batch.0

Hi, the expiry date would show that it's not old food, and yes, I still do need to feed the cats but probably going to go elsewhere now!0

Why don tyou just use the gift card to purchase more food?? Its highly unlikely that every batch of food has gone mouldy - there may have been a small tear in the ones you got whihch led to it.
dont cut of your nose to spite your face here.Dont rock the boat

I think you are lucky to get a gift card, as I understand it pet food cannot be returned, with or without a receipt in case it's been tampered with.

Not sure where you get that idea from.
The OP purchased goods in a shop which were not of the quality expected.
You seem to be suggesting that rubbish stock can be sold as petfood and there is nothing the consumer can do about it.
Or have I misunderstood you?0 -

But in this case it was not fit for purpose if it was mouldy. It wasn't a change of mind return.
Edit: Beaten to it!0 -
Have you bought this brand before?0
