Renting a Room - Gas Safety Certificate?

If you rent out a room in your house (where you are still living), is there a legal requirement to get a gas safety certificate from someone who is CORGI registered as there is if you were renting out the whole of the property and you lived elsewhere?

No, there is no requirement to have a Gas safety certificate if you have a lodger.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

unless there are lots of rooms let out and in that case i would have thought the local authority would classify it as a HMO and it would need a CORGI0

You don't rent your house out to lodgers, you rent a room to a lodger, usually. And no, there is no requirement for a gas safety check. The only exception might be if the boiler is in the room you are renting to them --- I suspect (thought I'm not sure) that all equipment in the room has to be safe, though I don't think it has to be inspected.

BTW if you live in a flat you may be required by the freeholder to have a gas safety certificate anyway.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

You should have your boiler serviced and check every year anyway.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

See http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1998/98245104.htm#36 for the relevant act. It turns out you have to give your lodger a copy of the certificate as well, or have a copy displayed "in a prominent position in the premises".
