RM or Courier for small Parcel.

Can someone advise please.
I want to post a soft toy which is in a display box 6x6x8 inch high.
The RM deep small box size would have been great at £2.80 but the display box is 2 inch too wide. It is very lightweight so I wondered how other people would send it.
I would have only thought of using Couriers for heavier items.
What does everyone else do?

I would not use a courier unless I was sending the item to someone at an office address, as in my experience trying to actually get your package from a courier company can be a nightmare, particualrly if you work.
I would just find a bx which fits the item, wrap it and send it royal mail. If it is a gift for a child I might consider taking it out of the display box if that would make it easier to send. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Use a courier. If you use My Hermes and it is under 1kg they will pick it up from your home for £2.98 or if you drop it off at a Parcelshop (normally a local shop open late) it will be £2.78. It is fully tracked so you can prove delivery if you need to. I often send light things by My Hermes as it is far cheaper than sending it Royal Mail recorded and has full tracking, not like Royal Mail's 75% chance of getting a signature but it goes in a black hole till it gets there.
If you don't want to use My Hermes then go on a site like https://www.parcelmonkey.com and I guarantee you that you will find a courier far cheaper than Royal Mail medium parcel.0 -
I've been using worldwide-parcelservices.co.uk for parcels.
RM/Parcelforce now go by size rather than weight I believe. I've used the above site numerous times with no issues when RM postage was overpriced.0 -
Thanks! for replies especially mrcol1000.
I think I will use My Hermes as there is a drop off shop near me. (Just had this idea that you only send heavier items by courier!)
It would be a real shame to take it out of the display box just for posting.0 -

If this is an ebay item then what service did you list it as royal mail or courier ?0 -
I would use Hermes. Royal mail lose too many items.0

I would never use them and avoid sellers who do, but if I was forced to use them, Id check with the buyer first, they are the only ones who know if local hermes guy gets stuff to buyers ok or not.0 -

Sellers would stop using Hermes if they were too much trouble. Fact is large sellers know more about couriers from their own statistics than here-say and gossip on this web site.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Am I going mad or misreading the sizes (both of which is possible as I am tired and hot) but those dimensions fit in the small parcel rate ?
Roughly in inches a small parcel can be 13 x 9 x 6.
Do double check though using the latest size changes where small parcel sizes were increased- I really can't rely on my memory at the moment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Would they ? From the service Iv had, the sellers would not have had any "trouble" at all, because the tracking (incorectly) showed "left in porch" etc etc so Im the one who would have lost money if they did not show up days after the tracking said they did.
It's also not the seller who has to go looking through other peoples bins, sheds etc looking for the item.
So no, no "trouble" for the sellers at all  of course there was those pesky low p&p stars ebay used, but that was all down to stamp watchers wasnt it ? or could some of it be due to bad courier/postal experiences as well ? who knows, but if I had been running an ebay business, I would of been giving the buyers options, because they know which couriers/postal services work to them, not me .:)0
