Caution re failing laptop - you would need Windows or Mac version to initiate a budget before you can continue (eg. "edit" it on the ipad or see it on an iphone).

Hello YNAB Converts
I have just purchased YNAB on Steam @£29.99. I had 5 days left on the trial but I decided to purchase early in case I needed to reload all my categories etc. I am pleased to say that I did not need to do this and my budget has lined up exactly as the trial free version with all amounts and accounts in place
However, I noticed that when I open the new YNAB, steam also opens up. How do I stop this. I want YNAB to operate independently the way the trial did. Also, will my app work with YNAB downloaded from steam? Will drop box still sync or should I be doing something to line it up with steam?
Thanks for the advice0 -

I had the same issue and don't want to use Steam! Basically what you're going to need to do is find out your license key, which will be somewhere within the Steam client for you to copy and paste somewhere safe, or alternatively you should be able to get it from within YNAB by clicking Help > About YNAB 4 > Copy Activation Key to Clipboard (then paste it somewhere).
Once you've done that, uninstall YNAB (and Steam if you wish). You don't need to worry about your budget, as those files are separate from the program files. You will need to know where they are stored though to link back to them later.
Download the software again from the YNAB site so that it has no links to Steam, and once booted up you should be prompted to activate the software - use the license key you obtained earlier and job's a good 'un. Go to file, open, to open your budget file from wherever it is saved, or if it is in dropbox go through file, preferences to set up your sync.0 -
Thank you, thank you Sedulous!!! Mwah! I did it!!
For those who wish to do this, I found it easier to find the activation key by finding it through YNAB and not through steam. As I was still on the trial I could just paste the activation key when prompted in the opening box where it tells you how may days you have left.0
