Hi, thanks for help SedoLOUs and peaceandfreedom. I've spent afternoon looking at my register I think I've found my £3.92 it was a minus amount back in Apr/May and it was the last entry before my next month's income and I reconciled at -£3.92 doh!

So just need to 'fix' it now. Can you amend 'reconciled - padlocked' entries? Thought maybe I could just add £3.92 as income just before the -£3.92 amount?

Any suggestions how best to fix this please?

    Thankyou

    LG:)

Yes you can delete and edit padlocked entries, although it will give you a warning about doing it, as normally you shouldn't be editing stuff that has already been reconciled correctly.

You can just delete the transaction entirely if you are certain it shouldn't be there, otherwise adding an opposite transaction and reconciling that will have exactly the same overall effect.

Hi I've signed up for the months free trial but would I need to enter my pay from last payday or what is currently in account until next payday. Presuming it will mean I'm over balance for next month if I enter all outgoings now when I'm only 9 days off payday.

Very new to it and will not be awake to watch a lesson at 11.30pm!

Am sure in time I'll get my head round it but just trying to start off.

    Thanks

  • I would start by just entering what is left in your account today and allocate what you need to do with it till the your next pay day.

Thank you - that looks better!
I'll add my outgoings for September on pay day in 9 days time!

By then I might have my head around it and will try to watch the first webinar - they all seem to be late night and I'll be too tired to concentrate then!

I did wonder about adding everything from August by going back to last payday - I write down spends so could do that but maybe best to start at next payday now.

Start with what you have today, and what you need to budget now. Don't try to fill-in backwards, not worth it.

    Thanks will go from today.
After installing it on the desktop computer I noticed it shows on everyone's homescreen - family shared desktop.
Deleted it off others home screens/programmes and it's now deleted it from mine too!
To be honest I'll probably only use it off my iPhone, it wouldn't install on my old iPad - no doubt as still on iOS 6 something.

Hoping I don't need a desktop version - could not find out how to put a password on that - I want any financial details password protected and not showing on everyone's login!

Alisont - It's the budget files that matter - I keep mine in dropbox myself (so I can sync between machines / iphone / etc).
As long as other users on the computer don't have access to the folder (dropbox, whatever) you'll be fine. Of course if everyone's an administrator account, they will be able to access it.

Ps. I started off YNAB by preparing everything on paper in advance (categories, budgets, note of recurring payments, etc), and then when payday arrived (the day I always slot in the new budgets), I got going.

It's worth noting that because it uses "enveloping" (money carries over - well unless you configure that category specially), payday during the month isn't an issue, you just budget in the month it arrives, for a full month from that date, and then slot in new budget when you get paid (even though deductions already exist in that month). I get paid on the 26th, I generally do a review on the 25th in the evening, reconcile etc, and balance off any surplus I don't want to carry over.

You do need the desktop version in order to use on i-phone but you'll need to set up a personal dropbox account if you don't want others in the family to see your accounts.

I have documents on my PC which I don't want others to see and just use a password on the individual documents but not sure whether it's possible to do that with YNAB but doesn't matter as only DH and I use it and it's a joint account.

By the way if you can't see the live webinars they're all available on the YNAB website or on U-tube.

    Another issue.

How is budgeting with money left on a credit card handled?

I have a CC with a limit of £1500. I had £1450 as the balance, so £50 available.

I have purchased train tickets on it, for £18. I put it through as a transaction on the Barclaycard. I then put £18 in the travel budget. It now says it's £18 overbudget.

How do I handle this? I don't want to be overbudget obviously, but I want to have the ability to spend on my credit card when needed.

Should I put my credit card off-budget?
