  • Took me a little while to get the hang of YNAB but after watching webinars, help from Firewyrm and lots of playing I've got the hang of it and I can honestly say it's changed my life.

I watched the youtube introduction video first so I could underatand the concept - the 4 steps. I then started the Trial period and joined the webinars.
I have 23 days left on the trial and will be purchasing (if I don't win).

Question....if I buy through Steam, do they just give you a key code or is there something special, like downloading stuff, that I need to do? I'm not tech smart so I don't want to have to something complicated.

  • Hi Bublin,

I got mine through steam. Cant re,member the actual process but do know that it wasn't complicated and everything i needed was supplied easily and downloaded very simply.

It really wasn't a scary process.

I was lucky enough to win mine, but I was just given an activation code to enter into the free trial software, very straightforward.

If anybody wants to use it, I have a referral link for 10% off (in the interests of full disclosure I also get a cash bonus for everyone who uses it!)

Its definitely worth hanging on to the end of the free trial and watching all the classes to try and get a win though, the odds are pretty good.

    Here's the 10% link: http://ynab.refr.cc/GZZ4S79

Downloading? Do you have to start the spreadsheet again from scratch or is all your work still there?

Interesting - sounds like you have started the trial NOT through Steam but from the YNAB website direct. If you buy through Steam it has to work through Steam every time (if you have a pc, not a mac).

if you buy through Steam at the end of the trial it will in stall a "new" YNAB but just use your login and it "SHOULD" work fine.

The reason I say this is we have the steam version through a PC we have but don't use, and I installed on my and wife's macbook with the code (The YNAB website tells you how to retrieve this from the PC copy)

I was terrified I would have to start again but when I logged in with same email address it was all there when sync through dropbox!

Not quite true, you can create a link to where it has been installed - e.g.: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\YNAB 4\YNAB 4.exe" you don't need to open or run Steam. You can make this simpler by:

    1) Start YNAB via Steam/shortcut/any other means
    2) Right click on the YNAB icon near the start button
    3) Choose 'Pin this program to the taskbar'

You can then start it straight from the taskbar too.
