Does anyone successfully sell furniture online

Does anyone successfully sell furniture online? My mother in law's asked me to sell her sitting room furniture for her on ebay, there has been some interest but it's not shifting. It's very fancy Queen Anne furniture, it's 20 years old but it's immaculate as she only uses it for show, she sits on a computer chair. I think this is the problem, people looking on ebay aren't looking for this sort of stuff. Any suggestions?

I sold a 3 piece suite belonging to my OH Grandma. We got stuck with it and it was awful but very expensive and good quality. We ended up selling it for £250 on Ebay even though it was a few years old. We used it with covers though as the pattern was so awful. Cash on collection and all that.

It might be the wrong time of year. If people are on holiday or saving for holidays. You could always try a proper auction as they would be able to get rid of it quicker but you'd get more money doing it yourself on Ebay. It just depends how long you can wait. If it is buy it now then bringing it down a little bit might encourage a sale. If you keep doing it auction then just doing it buy it now might help.

Personally eBay would not be my first place of choice for collection only items., I'd try local small ads or Facebook first.

Remember as well the issues of selling collection only items on eBay

Is it a cloth covered three piece then? Perhaps your starting price is too high.
.you may only be talking about £50 max

I have been at auctions where they couldn't even get a bid of £5 for lovely, quality three piece suites :(
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

I've bought odds and ends of furniture from Ebay. The biggest piece we bought was an Ercol three piece suite - there is quite a lot of interest in Ercol furniture, but obviously that is something where people are looking for the frame and can restore the cushions.

The furniture we have bought has tended to come from second hand house clearance type businesses, and it helps a lot if they offer postage/courier or a delivery option.

Try some of the facebook selling pages.
  • Thank you very much for replying, yes I think ebay's a bit of a ghost town this time of year. I've been clearing up after my sick daughter all week so sorry not to thank you all earlier :)
