So all phones on ebay are stolen are they? Perhaps sillygoose is the correct name for you ;). I've purchased my last 5 phones on ebay for myself and family and if you check out the buyer and their history the risk is zero.

OP, don't be scared off getting a 2nd hand phone off ebay by this person, you'll get a lot more for your money than a Virgin Blade.

Yes because absolutely no fraudsters on eBay generate a decent enough looking feedback history before beginning their fraudulent activity

A week later isn't as bad as 3 months later.

I've sold a lot of my old phones on eBay, I've never defrauded any buyer, nor have a ever sold a phone and then reported it lost or stolen for insurance purposes (or any other reason).

I'm sure there are plenty of other sellers out there doing the same...

Wow, the paranoia in this thread is hysterical. Oh well, more bargains for the rest of us.

So if this person is scamming their phone then they've been on ebay nearly 11 years, feedback of 449 and 100% positive.

    Yep, definitely a scammer.

Buy a new Moto 'E' or a Moto 'G' from Tesco with capped monthly contract. or on PAYG

Have a look at Moto E or Moto G.

Then get a PAYG like Giffgaff such that you don't suprise yourself with unexpected big bills.

Personally the Moto G of which we have one kicking around is a bit too good, even bought on Network and unlocked its still a bit pricey for a kid 1st IMHO (but maybe I am tight!)

The Moto E though is about £79 on Tesco and a couple of quid to unlock is definitely a strong contender, even I might stretch to that for a kid.

Fortunately my kids are quite technically clever so we don't need any of that Apple nonsense. ;)

I would worry less about his street cred, and think more about his safety. Yes I appreciate that he wants to be like his mates but really a smartphone is not the answer.

If you're set on getting him a phone you want something that isn't the latest trend or up there in terms of what it can do. He needs something basic. The better the phone is, the more likely it could be stolen. Kids are an easy target for thieves and they won't be too fussed about giving them a slap or two if it means getting a new toy for free
