Right, and I'm the delusional one..... Renters are forced to move out when their LL decides. This could be every 6 months, each time you rent you are charged an eye watering amount of fees. I only pay out "fees" when I choose to sell. possibly never. I am in control of my own housing Destiny. The renter is not
all three of the last three replies whipped up fail to always miss half the story.

last time I looked, 800 buyers a week were not choosing when to sell. 5% of mortgages are on forbearance.

I have no issue with renting or buying...both are a means to an end and the best way for any given circumstance is not automatically buying.

Yes, you are delusional if you think having a roof over your head, paid for, rented or mortgaged is free of cost. Ideally, one own ones house in my view...but buying a house for 95% of the population isnt about the house...its about the price and the finance to achieve the ownership. Therefore, the choice isnt there for many..they are forced into one course or the other by circumstance...too old, too low income, cant work, need to care for someone...hundreds of reasons why people are excluded from the finance they "need" to pay someone elses asking price.

In line with the thread topic, I veer very much on the buying is not a good choice AT THE MOMENT.

If you want to be a homeowner (and I think most people on HPC do :)) then buying is the only solution. I went for the safe option of buying with a mortgage - I understand others gamble by trying to time the market.

The rest of your post is part of a defence mechanism where you build a fantasy world in which 'most' people behave in a manner far removed from reality. To be honest I don't know why there's the obsession with other people mewing, spending a fortune on decoration, moving every 4 years :).

If you don't approve of this stuff then just don't do it yourself. Why would you not buy a house because of your old neighbours not being able to garden or someone else having a more fancy kitchen than you approve of.
yes, buying would be a major component in the process of ownership.

Buying has never been a choice for everyone.

    I cant place a link.

there are many statistics on this issue, some more, some less, some taking into account young families, others the whole market.

When I owned and had a growing family, we moved every 3 years or so.

There is no right or wrong answer for any given case.

This is the point I am making.

Repeating ad nauseam that there is only one choice...buying...is more revealing about the thought processes and agenda of the poster than any arguments they may, or may not, present.

Some replies I receive here, rather than accepting I dont think buying is the right answer in every case, look to me and suggest I am suggesting that buying is NOT EVER the right choice.

800 a week made the wrong choice...clearly seen with hindsight.

therefore, it cannot be the only solution..which it seems some posters are stating.

I really do want to know what goes on inside his head....

Who on earth would be dumb enough to pay me to make thousands of posts on one of the most hidden forums on the internet....

    Ooooh, the plot thickens.

Maybe I'm even a member of HPC under a different name.....

Perhaps I spend my days there making posts so ridiculous, so outlandish, and so angry that I turn off any newbies from the cause of crashing prices?

    I could be Venger.

    Or Eric Pebble.

    Or even.....

    :D

    ......you. :)

    My landlord isnt in "balls-in"

He bought the house I rent from him with cash.

He doesnt have to worry about voids too much. He doesnt rely on the arbitrage of the tax break and MMR break. He doesnt rely on praying the next mortgage review isnt going to bust him out.

He has paid out half my rent on repairing the place this year, and all the rent double glazing it last year.

He looks after his tenant properly.
