I think you are being sensibly pragmatic about the Mondeo. It is too old to be having someone else paid to replace a major component; what next?
Initially I thought the Focus price was sky high, but you have to do some digging. Unusual to have a rep out in a Ghia diesel, so maybe this was a pampered exception and it will reflect light use and big attention to maintenance.
If it is just a rusty Focus, don't bother, he is asking double the value.

Got a Focus 2006 1.8 tdci (tcdi?) get 37 mpg and sometimes the engine light comes on for no reason. Design, or manfacture, fault is the 90 degree elbow for the turbo intercooler pipe gets a split. Ford sell the whole unit, not just the elbow. £360 for alternator replacement, £45 every time I want Ford to check something as they insist on putting it on the analyser thingy. Get a back street tech, reliable of course, and try to avoid the diesel as there are nightmare stories about the DPF and EGR valve. Unless you have the skills yourself of course.

I've got an 07, Zetec, Euro 4 Climate.

I think you need to get that checked.

    Mine's giving 49 to 50mpg.

Had that. Fixed it myself for £55.

The Focus 1.8 tdci doesn't have a DPF.
