O/S Daily Thread Monday 28th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Rain again last night and does feel cooler today but still didn't get much sleep last night. I think I am going to try a fan tonight and hope the noise doesn't keep me awake.

Lovely day yesterday at DD's, ate lots of bbq food and fell about laughing at antics of GDD in her new pool and funny rabbits.

Love and hugs and every possible positive and healing vibe for Molly and Mr and Mrs LW x

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

    Morning good wishes to everyone
I was woken this morning by the dog jumping on me :(
Went downstairs and made a coffee/opened back door for her.

Now! I hear thunder, It has just started to rain. Very good! it will cool the air and water the grass/plants.

Music, we have a fan I put on setting x1 for a few hour when i first go to sleep. I then turn it off when i wake a few hours later and the velvet night has got cooler.
I also have a mini.chillow pillow that I use an hour or so before I go to sleep.20 pounds from amazon. I used my survey vouchers to buy one in the heatwave of 2013.

Gosh! a lot of people have posted :0)

After my first coffee, I went back to sleep for 2 hours.
I don't seem to sleep right through the night anymore. I wake every few hours.

I had crumpits for breakfast YS. A packet of 6 was 30p.
Crumpits or toast - I toast them and then stand in a upside down v to cool. The marg does not sink i so much.

Os tip = I put rubber bands over the soap dish in the bathroom. The soap sits on the bands and air dryes both sides. No more soap sitting in a water mess.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Good morning all :hello:.

TTFTM - thanks for starting the day's thread sounds as though you had a great 'family time' yesterday afternoon :j.

Good advice - that 'chillow' sounds like absolute bliss in this weather.

We finally got our 'break in the weather' yesterday evening when the rain started - at least it didn't get in the way of those Giants and their trip to Liverpool. It looks as though it's rained on/off for most of the night as well, and this morning feels much fresher
well at least so far, it does :). Lots of sunshine and a few clouds towards Liverpool at the moment, just hope it doesn't get back to scorching temps :(.

    Plans for today include
    • Try to get out into the garden - apart from that, there's very little on the horizon for me. This will be 'my first full-day at home' for around 3weeks - so don't want to waste any of it by sitting in my nightie watching JK on the box :o.
    • Will take some 'frozen faggots' out of the freezer for this evening's meal - I've got some carrots that could do with using up before they crawl out of the fridge drawer - and some pots that are beginning to look a bit like octopuses/octopusii in 'my little spud bag' :rotfl: - bit of onion gravy to go with them will be .
    • Need to do a packed lunch for OH as he's on a training course at the moment.

HSarmhugs_9780.gif and pray1.gif for all who need or want them.

Have a good day and I'll pop back in again later in the day to make sure that we're all OS-ing ;)

    luv Lilyplonk xx

    Morning all
Fish fed, hubby & I have had breakfast & he's been dropped at work until 2:30
Family BBQ went well y'day, by well I mean no punchups, lol.
SFIL started singing rude songs after 1 beer, was roaring drunk after 2 & hubby managed to spill the third one someone gave him & then we took him home!
Plans for today include vacuuming downstairs as I did upstairs y'day, I shall bottom out the living room & give the kitchen a swish & swipe & then do some sewing.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning all ,well best laid plans etc .There I was sitting in my armchair and had just got my hated sewing out, and my SIL arrived on her way home from Essex, so sewing was put to one side, and I made her some coffee and we nattered .Then she went home and sewing was picked up again .

10 minutes later youngest DD phoned and said 'Mum do you fancy a ride to Westgate again'.It was so hot by then, I though b%gger the sewing :):):)so picked up DD and two DGS and off we went to Westgate where I sat by the sea, and watched as they went 'crabbing' and drank lots of tea:)

DD bought two bowls of cheesy chips which we shared between us and I splashed out from my Happy Cash Stash for the ice creams .Came back to her house by 6.00 and her lovely OH had cooked a delicious leg of lamb and all the trimmings for dinner last night, (he's not keen on the beach in very hot weather and they have two dogs who would suffer in the heat so he is happy to stay at home and watch the golf )
    Well done Simon,you are a star :):):)

Came home around nine with left over veg and some slices of cold lamb which will do for my dinner tonight .Sewing still sitting on the arm of the chair :):) so today I will take it with me to DDs as I have the boys today and will do it there.

I am hoping its going to cool down a bit as it was very humid last night and sleep was hard to find .
Hope you all have a good day
    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Sky is overcast and quite a breeze, not so humid, but still forecast to be hot, cloudy with some sun. Watered plants and greenhouse.

DH up and gone to work stupid early.

Lunch yesterday was a bit of a disaster – the joint of lamb I bought was awful – tough, dry and tasteless – the boys didn’t eat any of it, DH and myself did try some – but I’ve kept the receipt, the wrapping and remainder of it and I’m taking it back this morning before work. It cost very nearly £10 and for that I expect that we should be able to eat it and not throw it away! The rest of the lunch was fine – we had HG carrots and green beans, roasties, mash, broccolli, peas, Yorkshires and gravy. Tonight dinner will be burgers in buns with salad and chips for the menfolk, I’ll have jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad – nice easy dinner. Have had to do a bit of swapping the menu round as I was hoping for LO’s of the lamb joint for another dinner to cook in gravy with a potato gratin top (a bit like a hotpot).

Yesterday we did go to the caravan, so those jobs have been done, we’re ready to go away on Friday and I can’t wait.

Back to work for me this morning, am now on holiday countdown so will just be getting on with it – some days are horrendous and others not so bad – the good weather seems to stop people coming in quite so much – they must prefer sitting in the sunshine in their gardens!

Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all :

It is much cooler here this morning as well. I've no idea if it rained during the night but it didn't appear so when I let the dog out earlier.

Children are off swimming with my sister today then they're off to the park so I have made pack ups for them and OH. This gives me a free day although I'm running low on energy so not sure I will get much done. I had to increase medication last night as I had pain everywhere so a relaxing day would be good. That said, there is a wash in the machine and I need to get a loaf made.

No idea what dinner will be tonight. There is lots left over from yesterday but I think OH would complain if he got the same today. I will take a look and see what they can have.

Hope everyone has a great Monday :)

  • Good morning all,

A more comfortable night last night thank goodness. Cooler at the moment, but I think it will be hot later with the promise of rain late afternoon.

We had a quiet Sunday, just went to see DD for an hour and a coffee and then back home. Himself watched the highlights of the Grand Prix late afternoon.

Tpday we are off to Mr. A for the usual cat litter and cat food, it is so much cheaper there, and I want to look for some YS fruit, i.e. plums, apricots, peaches. I like to make this into a sugar free compote by just simmering it in lemonade. I then put it into small tubs and have it with yoghurt for breakfast or even as a dessert, and I freeze any surplus.

The WM is on with a few coloured bits so will put those out shortly and I must wash my hair, it is looking a bit rough this morning:)

Healing vibes to Hilly and Molly and anyone else who isn't feeling well.

    Have a good day

    Candlelightx
