Hand-held Dyson

Any one got one of these?
I have rheumatoid arthritis mainly in my hands and thought this might be useful for hoovering around the carpet edges, stairs, car etc. I can hoover large areas with ordinary hoover but OH has to carry it up and down stairs for me.
I have been reading varying reviews. Some good, some bad. They are expensive so want to make an informed decision.

We have one, it cuts out frequently when first charged which is a real pain, but apart from that it's pretty easy to use. We don't have the animal one and we have 3 cats - it seems to cope with the cat hair ok.
It's exepnsive for what it is (we got it in a big sale) so there may well be better cheaper altenatives.0 -

I have one and it's brilliant in my view BUT you have to hold the button in constantly for It to work and it's not as lightweight as you would think from the advertising and I can't hold it up to get cobwebs.
Great for cleaning through but I would try before you buy if you have bad hands.

I would completely agree with p00, plus I also think that it doesn't completely replace an upright. We have the animal handheld and a DC07, the DC07 is better on carpet, the handheld is better on hard floors.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

I have a very elderly (20-ish years) Dirt Devil hand-held vacuum cleaner which I use on stairs, and it's excellent, powerful and efficient. I don't have to hold in the "on" switch - I just plug it in, turn it on, and go.
Whether their current models are as good as this one I don't know, but they are certainly a whole lot cheaper than Dyson, so they might be worth investigating?e cineribus resurgam("From the ashes I shall arise.")0 -
I like mine, it did cut out when using, phoned Dyson & they replaced the battery free of charge, works a treat now. I agree, if its to make life easier, try before you buy as I wouldn't say its zero-effort. I bought it for my car & small areas. Its handy but doesnt replace a full sized vaccume.0

The early ones with the removable battery have a manufacturing fault , the contacts on the battery are the problem and dyson are only to aware of it as they have superceeded it with a model where the battery is fixed and non removable , we had 2 new battery's and two new bodies from dyson under warranty and eventually they replaced the entire unit with the upgraded model , the symptom is that it cuts out frequently so if under warranty kick up a stink or consider the sales of goods act ? Aside from this inherent fault they are an excellent and extremley powerfull bit of kit.0 -
Thanks for the useful replies.
I am still intending to use my big Dyson for large areas around the house, although I do need DH to carry it up and down stairs for me. I thought the hand-held one would be useful for along the skirting boards, the stairs and the car. I would hope that if I do purchase one it will be the model that superseded the early design fault models.
Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has one so I doubt if I can try before I buy!
I will have a look at one in a shop and pick it up and see how the weight feels before I commit myself to buying.0 -
Hi,
We bought one at the beginning of the year and I wouldn't be without it. We got ours in a big t3sco store and they had one out that you could pick up and have a look at. We didn't buy the extra attachments kit (which I think was a further £40) and I haven't needed it.
I use it in the car, under the dining table after meals (we have two kids!) on the stairs, round the edges of kitchen. I even caught DH using it in the top of the table to zap crumbs from crusty bread! I have another friend who hovers her kids down if they have had something like cake (thinking about this always makes me laugh).
It's also great if you don't want to Hoover the whole of a room but do a quick tidy up job. I deliberated for a Long while because of the cost but I think it's a good investment.

Thanks TheThriftyScrumpers! I just love the idea of hoovering my grandsons!
We have a large Tesco near us, also a Tesco Home. Will pop along this week sometime and see if they have one on display or if they will open a box to let me see it.0 -
I have a Black & Decker handheld vacuum cleaner:

It works brilliantly, and has over 400 reviews on Amazon.
Also costs a lot less than a Dyson.
P.S. It has an on /off power switch so no trigger to hold down when using it.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
..one size fits all... and nobody minds if you give it back.☆.。.:*・° Housework is so much easier without the clutter ☆.。.:*・°SPC No. 5180
