Pap, is that your way of saying 'busted'....:rotfl:

Oooh, btw, I have taken a photo of Tash in the outfit you gave her, but I think the lead for my camera is broken, because I can't transfer it onto the computer. I'll keep trying though!

Right Zed, I've tried to do the 'quote within a quote' thingy, and I'm too 'tired' (read 'thick') to work it out,

    Don't worry about it.
    Why would you want Quotes
    within quotes?
Trying to be flash or something

    That's OK... ;)

so I'll just answer your points one by one and hope it makes sense. :p

    That it does...

I have looked into it quite a bit in the past, but never really saw a way to make it work before - but I think I have a chance now to give it a try, without taking the risk of giving up a good job for something that, at the end of the day, there's a possibility I might end up not liking anyway.

Yes, which is always a good plan.

I wouldn't need any qualifications initially (particularly to volunteer as a parent helper),

Have you thought of not reducing your hours so drastically - and maybe only volunteering for one or two days a week? If you only want to see if you're going to like it.

Please keep the questions and comments coming though if you have any, as it's important for me to make sure that I HAVE considered it carefully, and don't rush blindly into anything.

Have you seen how much tax credits you'd get for childcare etc?

The reduction to 16 hours isn't a huge reduction - I only work part time anyway (lazy eh?). ;)

I had a quick check on the 'entitled to' website, and based on a rough calculation, I think we would get just about enough in tax credits to be able to cope with paying for extra childcare - I will need to put some definite figures in, and things will obviously be very tight financially, but what's new? :D

Just so you know, I might seem jokey, but I do appreciate you taking the time to help me analyse it all. :)

Spud, I think we have chatted before about the job you do, and it just sounds so rewarding. I know Ryan would really benefit from some extra support in the classroom, but because he doesn't have a definite diagnosis yet, and even if he gets one, he will be classed as 'high functioning' (I think that's what they call it), it's unlikely he will get any help.

I will keep working with him though, and hopefully he will be able to continue to cope with mainstream education. I have looked at home-schooling, but one of his issues is that his social skills are not very good, and I think the social aspect of school will be quite important in tackling this as he gets older.

I think we have talked before hun.

I've got to say, it hasnt felt like a job yet, in just over a year of doing it. In fact, it doesnt feel like work at all. Yes, the kids can be a bit trying sometimes, but when you get somewhere with them, it's so exciting. And of course, there are also the school holidays :D

I was very lucky in that I didnt apply for my job. I went on a school trip with my lad's class, and the head teacher offered me a job over out picnic lunch. It wasnt something I had thought of doing before, and came home absolutely terrified that I wouldnt be able to do it. Even my DH laughed and said I wouldnt last 5 minutes

I've been on loads of courses, and am booked on loads more, all fees paid for me. The biggie starts next month, a teaching assistant course

Don't you just hate being the only one that can't sleep??

Suppose I'd better confess to buying a lovely pair of sparkly silver sandals then, while no-one is around to hear me... :silenced:

I was woken at 3.35am this morning with my phone ringing continuously and it took me a while to get back to sleep. You were almost busted lady.....lucky escape......;)

It was OH's 19 year old son apologising to me profusely for getting his Dad drunk  Bless him. He had dropped off and picked up OH and then taken him to a friend's house. OH then walked back from his friends and appeared frozen at 2

The lad is quite sweet really, very shy with me so I just found it funny that he kept saying how sorry he was and that he was on his way home (to his Mums house), I couldn't be cross in any way. Sounded like he'd had a couple of drinks or 6 after doing the chauffeuring! He probably woke up this morning and went 'oh my god, I phoned my dad's girlfriend at 3.30 in the morning and kept apologising!!!'

Wasn't impressed though when woken at 4.30am by OH doing the 'where's the door, I need the toilet' act whilst standing in completely the wrong corner of the bedroom

so, up until 1.30, went to sleep just after 2. Woken at 3.30 and then 4.30......probably like having a baby to look after!!!!
