The Idiots at Admiral Insurance paid out for this

It strikes me that if such a low speed was said to have caused that damage then the cat is not safe to be on the road.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Bumper pressed in and pops out and leaves a tell tale sign.
A different car might show no damage to the naked eye but could still require the same level of work due to hidden damage.
Are they safe to be on the road?0 -

Whats un safe about a small hole in a bumper?0 -
I really dont get this, you admit to driving into the back of someone which is likely to have done damage, but wont accept the repercussions. A minor scratch, dent or whatever you caused it.
I didn't realise that an impact of any sort could possibly cause damage in this way. After the responses here it seems that it is possible, so that I have learned.0 -

A new rear bumper for an MX5 costs £312+vat+fitting and painting so £450 seems a bit cheap to me.0

£186.50 ex vat plus paint and labour sounds about right.

Good job a courtesy car and whiplash didn't get included.0 -
If it's possible you did do this, why not reimburse the insurance company the £450 solely for the purpose of preserving your no claims? You'll still have to declare the incident though but I suspect with 3 years, going down to 1 year ncb you'll save a lot more than 450
if you adopt this policy of paying off the insurer, what happens if there is another accident? Do you pay the insurer off again.
This is a risky gamble and you could end up compensating the insurer far more than what they would have increased in premiums.
My 2 years NCB discounted my insurance by £200 - not much. You are overestimating the discount a NCB will give you. Of course there are exceptions but in my case it wasn't much (I paid £900 premium)0 -
As other's have said, I don't know what the issue is here; you drove into the back of someone and the damage got sorted out through the insurance company - which is what they are there for. At least the claim didn't include whiplash.
I feel your pain though, I drove (well skidded actually as his brakes were better than mine, and it was raining) into the back of someone who stopped suddenly in front of me a few years back. Guy I hit ended up getting circa 7k from insurance company, for, from what I could make out was very little damage. His car (an old style megane) also had a towbar so the front of my then car (a citroen saxo) was mashed - this was an impact at less than 10mph! Guy also said on the night that he wasn't going to take through insurance company then went home and seen £ signs.
Lesson learned, I now leave a sufficient gap to allow me to stop if I need to and either move over (if safe) or give my brakes a quick flash if some idiot is sitting too close behind me. They're insurance company will be the one to pay it if any damage is done to the rear bumper on my car should they hit me.0 -
