The Idiots at Admiral Insurance paid out for this

See that circular hole the size of a £2 coin and tucked away behind the back bumper, apparently I caused I caused that damage by going into the back of him. Surely I would need a spike pointing out of my car to cause this.
They paid out £450 to get it repaired, and what is worse they didn't even tell me until I came to renew my insurance and they said "sorry sir, but you no longer have 3 years no claims bonus".
I'm outraged about this, as on Tuesday I have to renew which I doubt will give me any time to contest.
The claimant was also Admiral, so do you think they just paid out for convenience?
Presumably you'd have already known you'd lose your no claims bonus. You did inform them that you were at fault in an accident, didn't you?
Surely you knew there was damage, otherwise why would you
I really don't see what the issue is, you admit you were in an accident, the insurers assessed the damage, and deemed it to be from the accident, and paid out.
Where's the problem?
Or is it some big cconspiracy, so you get (quite rightly) higher premiums.0 -

Firstly I didn't think I was responsible for causing any damage to the car, nor was there any damage to my car.
I reported the incident to insurance as you are required to do, but made it clear that I felt I didn't cause damage and I sent them the picture.
At first he wanted cash, and not go through insurance which I didn't agree to.0 -
Maybe you did not cause the damage. But your insurers believe you did and so paid out. These bumpers are only thin plastic and deform easily, a little light pressure will see it flex readily, a car hitting it at even walking speed will cause it to deform and it is designed to deform around the lock, which is where it has been damaged
Knowing these cars there is a strong possibility that you did cause this damage - even with just a slight nudge.0 -

Can I still renew with my NCB and keep contesting or will my insurance be invalid?
I don't see what point there is in discussing the severity of the 'incident' as you prefer to call it.
There was a 'coming together' of vehicles - and it doesn't matter whether it was a scratch that needed fixing or a complete rear end replacement - there was a claim and your insurance paid out - so you have lost your NCB - end of.
How much damage, and how much it cost, is irrelevant.
!!!!! happens and unfortunately in this case it happened to you.0 -
You wouldn't need a spike on your car as you can clearly see from the imagine that the impact of your car has caused the lock to essentially rupture out of the bumper as the force of your vehicle pushed in the surrounding plastic. It is a fairly common problem in rear ending with the mx-5, thankfully the actual lock normally survives so you just need the new surrounding bumper for the boot. In the slightler older models it isn't to uncommon to notice a very slight colour difference due to having the bumper replaced.
If they slammed their brakes on from a slow starting speed then you were too close if you couldn't stop in time, use it as a lesson to make sure you keep back enough.0 -
dont know if it matters but that number plate doesnt take much working out!!!0

Or he backed into his garage door and then did a quick run to the nearest stop sign, pulled away and slammed on his anchors so he gets the damage done as a virtual freebie. Best always to hang back and carry a camera to take pictures of damage with. Now we know it, everyone will be going around Asda carparks kicking rear bumpers on Mazdas. :cool:0

Looks like the lock has been cut out by a car burglar. Happened to my sisters Punto a few years ago.0

I really dont get this, you admit to driving into the back of someone which is likely to have done damage, but wont accept the repercussions. A minor scratch, dent or whatever you caused it.0

If it's possible you did do this, why not reimburse the insurance company the £450 solely for the purpose of preserving your no claims? You'll still have to declare the incident though but I suspect with 3 years, going down to 1 year ncb you'll save a lot more than 4500
