Paypal deposit paid for car, can I get it back?

I've won a car, despite initial email/text/phone contacts and after receiving a paypal deposit (stating in the message it was for the item numbered item off ebay), the seller after 10 days (contacted by all methods above every day) hasn't give me its registration number nor their home address for collection, can I get my deposit back?

Did you send the deposit as a "gift" or "goods/services" payment ?

I have a niggling worry in the back of my mind that there is no buyer protection with car depositis- however, I may well be wrong. Give it a try though, log into paypal and claim money back on the basis that item has not been received.

As far as getting the money back through the Paypal buyer protection procedure, how the money was sent won't make much of a difference.

This is because the payment isn't protected for 2 reasons.
There is no paypal protection for vehicles and even if there was, you lose any protection if you make a partial payment for a deposit. Payment must be made in one full single transaction to make it eligible.

    Parisien,
How was your payment funded? (Credit or debit card etc), as you may be able to get your card issuer to do a chargeback for the money.

Yup, quite correct, I knew ebay would not be interested, but paypal wont cover it at all either :-(

    Payment method:
    £5.81 GBP – PayPal Account
    £194.19 GBP - ulster x-xxxx
    Backup Payment Method:
    MasterCard/Eurocard Credit Card XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

    On the paypal statement.

Why are sellers allowed to ask for a deposit on their adverts then?

Can I start a claim back anyways to show I've used every means to get it back and then go to a small claims court?

Ebay do not monitor listings they rely on buyers keeping themselves safe.

If this is a scam I have not come across it before and wonder if you just have a really dim seller.

Has seller still got any live listings, and what is their feedback like?
