This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all,
restless night sleep in my house last night. I couldn't sleep, tossing and turning. I hope this period of restless sleep ends soon.
Hubby had a sneezing fit around 5am which woke me. I tried to go back to sleep but it wasn't happening. Hubby was wide awake too so at 5.15 he decided to get up. He's out in the garden weeding before it gets too hot.
i'm providing the liquid refreshments....I could go out and help him but I don't weed right apparently. :rotfl:
'Youngest' didn't come home last night. I got a message around 10pm last night to tell me to not expect him home.
The 'Girls' are still fast asleep. I can hear them snoring bless them.
I'm listening to a CD our neighbour gave us to listen to. Steve Harley.... neither of us are a great fan of his but I thought I'd show willing. We have had the CD a fortnight and although he said there was no rush to return it, I think its about time we did. Hubby hasn't listened to it, he's in no rush to either so ive saved it on a memory stick if and when he wants to.
Our Grandsons party this afternoon. I'm looking forward to it. Its his birthday tomorrow but he's having his party today. He usually wakes up from his morning nap around 1pm. His party is at 1.30. They are having a bouncy castle and a big tent thing in the garden.... looking forward to it.
Online shopping comes this evening. I think this will be the last online shop. We will go back to our usual shopping routine next week I think.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning all
Ooo early start for you Judi!
Cooler here after all that rain yesterday. We ended up having McD for dinner because I was rather unorganised!
DD and her friend went out to HyperJapan at Earls Court and had a lovely time. They're both mad about Anime and Manga (japanese cartoons and comics) and attend this and the Comic Con at Excel every year. DS2 went out just before the rain hit, and DS1 was still feeling rough and crawled into my bed while I was reading and fell asleep with his head on my tummy and me stroking his hair...21 and he still loves "stroke-ey" as much as he did when a toddler lol :rotfl:
DH said they the people buying FIL house want to complete at end of August, so our stuff stored there and any bit we wanted have to be out by then  it's loads of big furniture and two motorbikes
Our garage here is full of odds and ends in tons of boxes, so I need to put that stuff in the attic, but that needs rearranging and sweeping first - a really filthy job. Still, I work better with a deadline so I will just dive in. Lucky kids are off school so I can rope them into the lifting for me
Have a fab day all, hug to those in need x0 -
Morning all, and thank you Judi for starting the thread.
Another early morning for me as well, I don't sleep well when it is this warm.
About to put the WM on, although I don't have much washing to do today but I must take advantage of the weather.
Popping to Mr. T early this morning for a few bits, and later DGD and boyfriend are coming for lunch. She was in Dublin with her friends last weekend so she wants to tell me all about it. She said the taxi drivers were really kind and told them of the best places to go. She also went to the Guinness Brewery in a horse and carriage, so looking forward to hearing the rest.
42 years ago today younger DD was born, and the weather was just as hot in 1972 as it is at the moment. Induced at 8 a.m. and she wasn't born until 6.20.p.m. and the sun was blazing through the windows of the labour ward all day:)
Judi hope your grandson has a lovely birthday party with no tears.
Have a good day everyone and take care.

Mornin', all :hello: - thanks for starting us all off today, Judi :T.
Judi - love your idea of 'helping' your OH with the gardening. "She also works who provides sustenance and words of encouragement!" - where would he be without you!
dandy-candy - I'd definitely be setting those teens - and OH - of yours to work with the 'decluttering and sorting-out of house/garage/attic' - what a task ahead. I really feel for you, as I've been there myself ((((hugs)))).
candlelight - have a lovely family day with your DD's :j.
I'm another who tossed/turned for most of the night - that's what happens when I decide on an 'early night'. I don't normally head for bed at 10.00pm unless feeling unwell ........................ - what on earth happened to the girl who'dall Friday Night
.
Had a 'hellish day' trying to negotiate my way around Liverpool without coming up against The Giants and their crowds of followers. It IS wonderful for the people of Liverpool, as well as the Tourist Industry, but when you're 'a woman on a mission to be elsewhere' it's just a b****y nuisance. Bus routes into the City were cut short on the outskirts of the shopping areas and starting points for buses out again, were all moved to temporary stops .
Mum was looking much brighter but definitely showing signs of irritation. I left her munching on slices of fresh, chilled melon and dribbling onto tissues . Poor love spent all of May in hospital / all of June in Interim Care / and July back in hospital .............. - and still no end in sight.
Plans for today include
-
-before the temps begin to rise again.
-
- Get ready to go out with my daughter, my two sisters and their two daughters for 'Posh Afternoon Tea'.
- After that, not sure if we've got anything planned .............. just have to see what the day brings.
Off to make a start on my to-do list ................ Speak later - Lilyplonk xx0 -
Morning :hello:
Thanks everyone xx
Jacksmummy Sorry about Mabel xx I'd never heard of Beechwood Blues before so I googled it. I have twoCassie and Ruby. I know them as Bluebells/Blue Rangers. Jo was a Bluebell.
We've been thinking about getting more chickens for a while now, mr tru is keen on bantams and I'm about to give inWe'll need another henhouse for them, not keen on wood because of mites so I'll have a look around for a small plastic shed.
Town was like an oven yesterday. Some shops had air-con but I felt so sorry for the staff in the ones that didn't. Mr tru is working six days a week for a fortnight and I don't want to waste his two days off food shopping. I went to Iceland for milk, bread and fruit & veg, I didn't want to carry it (I buy 6 4-pinters a week) so threw things we'll always use like loo roll, sugar, etc into the trolley to make it up to £25 so they'd deliverI also nipped into the indoor market for beads and bought a small ball of 100% cotton yarn, I never used it before so thought I should try it out

My leg was niggling while I was out and got worse as the day went on, despite my exercises. By teatime I could hardly walk so I stood in the bath, turned the shower setting to needle and turned the heat up. I aimed it at my hip and stayed there for about 10 minutes. It's eased a bit but this morning the muscle feels like a big solid knot, walking is a bit easier though. It's going to take me all day to get through my jobsI'm going to repot two of the strawberry plants in the chicken poo compost, just to test it. I'm not sure if it's ready to use yet, it might need a bit longer to break down. Will also attempt to hoover the house and clean the bathroom

A brand new day and blue skies above with little drifts of white cloud.
Looking good.
I did a thoughtful survey yesterday on how our weather is changing and given the name - climate change. Hot summers, more dreadful floods and erosion of cliffs.
I said to OH that we would use up the wood pile we have for the coal fire this winter and not buy any more. Nice as the coal/wood fire looks it takes a lot of watching or will burn out. smokey.
Not happy when I went downstairs this morning to find a lamp had been left on all night. What a waste of pennies.I work hard at keeping the bills as low as can be. His lazy boy electric chair is still plugged in and light on at plug. = I know! all small things!but several small things add up.
I won't say anything! It is just so maddening!
No one wants to know a cross person.
Postie brought some free samples this week.. Chuffed with that.
Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner.
Lady million perfume
BBQ marinade sauce packet.
Time to put the one cup machine back on and make a second coffee and some wholemeal toast.
Keep smiling, even in tough times.
Breakfast was lovely in the garden.
I then redid x2 vases of flowers. Fresh water and got rid of the dying flowers.
They are yellow, pink and white chrysanthemums.
The chrysanthemum flowers are meant to keep bugs at bay. We don't seem to have many flies in the house. Perhaps it is working?
I then pruned the geranium flowers out side. That rain yesterday sent many over so I have cut some of the flower heads to stop the plants wasting energy making seeds.
Done a survey and wanted to fill in one for a product I have been sent to trial. Only to click through and it to say survey no longer required. Bit strange! Will try again later.
Cleaned the bathroom using Flash with bleach spray.
Bleach down the loo.
Put some free ebooks on my kindle from "daily free books" get sent a daily email. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Morning all
First Saturday in ages hubby hasn't had to work, so we've had a lazy start to the day, we went to the carvery last night, yummy.
DW loaded, WM on, I'm just trying to decide what job to do this morning before it gets too hot, I need to buy a birthday card today as we are going to a birthday BBQ tomorrow & popping in to see MIL &SFIL on the way to see if they want to come too.
Molly, hugs, I hope you are ok, Hilly, I hope you are keeping well.
LW, I hope you are not getting too stressed & have some furry lodgers to keep you busy.
Time to make another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good Morning everyone another very warm day forcast so I shall be going for a very quick shop this morning as
A.I don't have much to buy (Yoghurt ,mushrooms grapes, cucumber)
B. I am trying to spend as least as possible this month, as we are
away on holidays in 20 days time so don't want to bin anything:)
C. every bit of 'food purse money' left over this month will go for small top-up shopping in August until our holiday on 15th and I won't need to draw any cash out for Augusts food purse budget:):) That can go towards our food pool of cash DD and I have when we go away.We save as much as we can and have a 'pool' for foot for the fortnight. Any cash left at the end of the holiday gets blown on a meal out on the last night
:):)When we arrive at our holiday house we bring lots of 'staples tins loos rolls washing powder etc (there are 7 of us ) and then whilst my son-in-lawsorts out the bedrooms and unpacks DD and I hit the local shops for our food shopping. We already have made a rough menu for the fortnight beforehand .We have our food budget pool of cash plus any collected tesco vouchers and any collected Nectar points .So we usually have around £80.00 in non-cash and the rest in hard cash.
This way we have enough to eat for two weeks and seperate spare money is for treats and outings. We have a purse with the food money in and thats all its used for when we are away ,the same as if I'm at home:):)
I am so looking forward to it this year and hopfully the weather will be kind to us
Yesterday morning DGD Holly bless her turned up with a card and present for me as a thank you for her day out.The waiter at the restaraunt had taken a photo of us two together and she had gone to Bluewater yesterday and had it framed. On the top engraved in the wood was the date and place and on the bottom a 'Thank you so much fo a great day, love Hollyxx' It was a lovely gesture bless her and she doesn't have a great deal of cash being a student and I was quite touched:):)
Today I am hoping to get some washing done. I first have to scrub out the rubber rim of the washing machine as it looks a bit black and gruesome.I also want to deep clean the bathroom as its looking a bit grubby and hoover the bedrooms .I think I shall be wearing my old shorts and loose tee shirt for these tasks and hope no one comes to call as I will look like a raggamuffin:):):) so its going to be a busy day after my quick shopping trip.My shops are only a 3 minute walk away from my house so it won't take long to do that:):)
Hope you all have alovely day what ever you are doing0 -
Good morning everyone. Another muggy night though it was the noise of geese which disturbed my sleep more than once. Windows are still open so the noise was horrendous. We kept the front and back doors open until quite late last night to enjoy the slight breeze.
Did another oiling of the front benches yesterday and it was so hot that they dried very quickly. Now I must get some cushion pads for them. It was still blazing hot at 6pm yesterday so I sat outside with a glass of wine toasting myself a bit.
Got an inner ear infection I think, I get them quite often and they usually go after a couple of days. This one is lingering longer.
No real plans for today apart from watching some more of the Games. Another fantastic night of swimming yesterday with more tonight.
Freezer food again. May go into town and buy some onions to slice and freeze. Our local shops don't stock frozen sliced onions which I prefer to buy. So, it could be an afternoon with the food processor ahead of me.
Hope things are good for everyone or getting better.
Happy Saturday.0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Sky is overcast and quite a breeze, not so humid, but still forecast to be hot. Will water plants and greenhouse shortly. Will see if there’s enough washing to make up a load.
DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips, beans/veg and salad for the menfolk. I had a mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight we will be having HM spare ribs, HM ham and mushroom pizza, salad and new potatoes.
Was reasonably productive yesterday, but went to collect my watch from the jewellers, I’d taken it in last week, as the strap had come undone where it joins on to the face of the watch and needed repairing, they had done it the week before and the same fault occurred so they were going to check out if there was any damage to the fixings etc. They’d mended again (free of charge) and I was happy – it has a lot of sentimental value as DH bought it just before we had the boys and it was a completely surprise xmas present and had I been able to choose – it’s exactly what I would have chosen, I loved it as soon as I opened it. Anyway, I’d been to do the food shopping and was outside the SM returning my trolley, when the watch strap went again, and fell off my wrist, face down on the concrete – the strap now had come undone from the face on both sides and the glass in the watch is cracked and broken – I managed to pick up the face and strap but I’m so upset, I got back to the car and cried, it obviously can’t be mended, as the pins that join the strap and face together are the only size that fit – and they are not holding it securely. Hubby just said don’t get sentimental – just go and buy another one! Men! Will be looking about this morning to see what I can find.
Just had a phone call from my parents, they are going out for the day and would DS2 like to go with them – yes he would – so they’ll be picking him up shortly. Be a nice bit of “me” time before DH and DS1 get in from work. Once DS2 has gone out, I’ll be heading out to do the jobs on my list. Will then come home and do some baking – I’ve made a list of what I need to do, so will crack on with that.
Yesterday afternoon I got a text from 1 of the companies we’ve put a ppi claim in against and they have made a decision and have written to us to tell us of their final decision - letter will be here with 5-10 working days – have to see what they say.
Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x
