ncb bonus after a period without a car

Options
I passed my test in 2008, bought a car and ran it until 2013. No claims, no accidents, clean license and five years NCB.

Then I sold it, cancelled my insurance with Admiral and went to travel around Australia for a bit. Anyway I'm back in the UK and want to buy another car.

My question: do I still have my ncb or does it reset if I go for a period without a car? Also if I do, do I have 5 years ncb (the amount of time I was insured) or 6 years? (the amount of time since I purchased my first car) As mentioned I've never claimed or had an accident.

NCD is typically recognised for up to 2 years and so you should be ok, there are a few exceptions so check before buying.

NCD is a slightly alien concept, you still have 5 years (as you would still have 5 years if you'd claimed on a different policy or had claimed on this one but had NCD Protection) but your claims history would reflect the extra year of being claims free.
