.It seems that basic accounts don't have iban and bic neither.
So I'll have to open another current account somewhere else, without moving my direct debits etc... Can you open another account in another bank without switching, and leave santander to carry on as it is for now?

Of course you can apply for a current account without switching. Or any number of current accounts, for that matter.

But you would probably not choose FD, Coop, M&S or Halifax as these pay joining bonuses if you switch, and you might want to switch at some point in the future.

I just had a little check on my ISA account with santander. And it has an IBAN and BIC code. (I didn't know saving accounts had them.)
I used to be able to save up to £7000 before, now it has changed to £15000.
Does anyone knows, if they block my account after tranfer, whether they would block the ISA account only or would they block both my ISA and Current accounts?

It's more likely to get blocked recieving into an ISA, also ISA accounts have limits the account can recieve, if it goes above, payment will be returned back.
Why don't you just take advise from other posters and open a new account and do the transfer? and get this fear out that the account may get blocked, in the unlikely event it does, you are in a position to explain, right?

Getting it confused with the requirement to declare when entering or leaving the country from outside the EU with cash, etc, above that figure

We're not talking CASH here, it's about an electronic transfer, that too from Europe.
OP is already struggling to make a decision, throwing in these sort of links are not going to help.

Yes I know that - I was trying to explain (unsuccessfully apparently) how I got confused a few posts ago.

When my mother moved from Italy to get nearer my uncle, she had left an account open there with some money in it. They ask the new bank what to do about it, and the new bank told them that they could transfer the money from Italy to the new account and close the old account themselves. Which they did, without problems, about 10 years ago.
A work collegue told me the same thing, just go to the bank here, and they will do it themselves. That was about 5 years ago.
I just don't undestand why you could not do it anymore, unless they've changed the law.
Why would an Isa be more likely to be blocked than a normal account?
If they block my Isa without blocking all my accounts, it wouldn't be too bad, but I'd still rather open an account in another bank, as i don't trust santander. That is if they let me open an account without asking me to switch everything.
I'll have to have a look at Lloyds or Natwest, the 2 banks next to where i live.

All your answers are on this forum or just use the good old google, you'll be surprised how useful it is than asking friends and uncles.

For some reason, I have a feeling you don't seem to be looking for a solution. So I won't be able to contribute anymore. All the best to you.

you would be the first, and probably last, person ever that cannot open a second current account with a different UK bank whilst keeping their existing account.
