You can normally see the ink in them if they are ink ones. What about wrapping the tag in a plastic bag before the dying to remove it so if it does go off its contained. I've had to do this before (worked in clothes shop) and we had one that wouldn't undo with the magnet.

I'd email the seller to let them know and return to them at their cost or get them to send a replacement.

    Easier than getting ink everywhere..

They're all different. I've handled loads of bankrupt stock items with tags. Sometimes we were allowed to keep a machine to get them off, sometimes not. They mostly don't have ink in but obviously some do.

As for getting them off, some are easier than others without the right gun/machine. In my experience pliers are usually the best but there are hundreds of different types so no way of knowing just on here.

We had several thousands of an item with tags on a few years ago nd had to buy a machine to remove them. It turned out the tags were more valuable than the items they were attached to!

Damn i never thought of that. The tag value.

Crims may have wanted to buy them to see howto bypass them or remove them easily.

Not sure criminals are that dedicated to their work! Their value is largely to other retailers, the whole security system costs a fortune, so there's quite a market in second hand stuff. It's surprising how many items they are attached to where the tag is worth more than the item.

I used an axe on one of these tags once. No ink.
