Does anyone EVER look at EPCs..?

It occurred to me the other day (having a large family) that I knew 10 people who had bought property in the last couple of years.

I've managed to speak with each of them and each one has treated my 'what did you think of the EPC?' question with blankness. Most had forgotten what the letters stood for, if they'd ever known in the first place.

Have YOU ever paid much notice to the EPC of a property you were buying? Do you know anyone who HAS..?

... or would I be right in guessing that this is 99% a false industry, creating jobs where there is no real need for them..? Why on earth does the government allow this 'son of HIPs' to continue?

I looked at the one for the flat I'm buying, not much sense from it.

It suggests cavity wall insulation, which is something I agree with, but would be asking if it had been done anyway when talking to the neighbors.

My husband always looks at them. They aren't always 100% accurate (floor size particularly) but they are quite useful.

Definitely look at them, approaching retirement we want somewhere energy efficient, warm and cheap to run.

Absolutely look at them. Aside from the obvious energy efficiency info, they include lots of other useful information beyond what they put in property listings - how the walls are constructed, what types of heating the property has, type of roof, how many windows are double-glazed, etc.

    I do!

From 2018 it I believe will be illegal to let property with EPCs go F or G, so it's worth considering.
  • It is definitely worth looking at, depending on the recommendations on the EPC you can get thousands in grants or Cashback through different schemes

I look at the EPCs. They are very useful, especially for flats.
  • The only one I have looked at is for my house now I'm selling it and it makes no sense at all!
