Govt announce increased speed limits.

Hopefully this change will be highly publicised and more folks will be made aware / realise what the speed limits are for other vehicles.
Being annoyed at a driver who is driving at the legal maximum is just plain ignorant.
Maybe we will get some reference to other vehicles speed limits too.
Agricultural tractors have a limit of 20mph - but some of those big modern ones are easily capable of 50 mph while towing a huge trailer for example.
A consultation paper on raised speed limits for the so-called 'fast' tractors was mentioned in the farming newspapers a while back back little news of what became of it.
They are failrly easy to overtake when doing 20mph but if running at around 40mph as many do on a single carriageway, you need one hell of a long clear view to get past.
In rural areas they are a much bigger problem than trucks.0 -

Agree with what yous say until the last part.
I live in a rural area( Norfolk)
I get "held up" behind Tesco lorries more often than tractors and as you say when a tractor is doing 20 it is relatively easy to get past until you get a numpty sitting behind it who wont/cant overtake it, making it extra long0 -
I see the opposite quite often on the A41. You join a queue of cars behind a lorry, curse the lorry for driving at 40 or less and then find the lorry is being held up by an old dear. You know that unless the old dear pulls over/turns off that you are then stuck for the next 5 miles because there is no safe place for an artic to overtake until then. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. What exactly is painful or difficult about changing lanes on a dual carriageway?0 -

Personally I think that the act of moving from the left hand lane to one of the others burns out their only functional brain cell leaving them stranded in that lane with no idea of how to get backThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Rubbish.
The faster you travel, the more kinetic energy you generate and hence it will hurt more when you come to that sudden stop.
As has already been said on this thread, It's not speed that maims or kills but rather it is the inappropriate use of speed that causes problems.
Statistically (yes, yes, damn statistics) you're less likely to have a crash on a motorway, than on a 60 or 30 limited road. Motorways are the safest roads, and also the fastest roads, that's the tongue in cheek point I was making.
This also applies to air travel, which is the fastest and also safest way to travel.0
