Lied to by Virgin multiple times

I am left cleaning up a mess which relates to a family member.

She was missold a contract by Virgin many months ago. She moved to Sky. Was told a cancellation fee with VM is due (as she was apparently in a contract!). She was basically missold a contract, by a twisted/clever VM employee. I know this as I also spoke to VM at the time this contract was supposedly agreed, and there was no such agreement.

Cicas (virgins independent body for claims) are impossible to get hold of. After multiple phone calls, complaints, letters etc, Virgin lie and say theyve listened to the phone call (after telling us X amount of times the phone call doesnt exist in their system), and cancellation fee must be paid.

Final bill arrives - cancelllation fee is £20 more than what was mentioned. Final bill, £205.

Angry and fed up, I left VM months ago for this very reason, they are absolute scum in the way they deal with people. They charge people whatever they like, you could be paying £20/30 pm less/more than a neighbour.

I have been lied to repeatedly, and CICAS are so hard to get hold of. What do I do? Pay the fee, or not pay up which will affect my family members credit rating, debt collectors will get involved/ etc etc. Have I got any options? OFCOM have been no help too.

You need to decide whether you are alleging a mis-sold contract, or a miscalculated ETC. The former will be very tricky indeed to prove; but the latter shoud be perfectly simple, as the ETC rates are clearly shown on the VM website:
    http://store.virginmedia.com/the-legal-stuff/terms-and-conditions-for-fibre-optic-services/early-disconnection-fees.html
However if you believe it was mis-sold, and can prove it, then the contract should be voided without penalty. I don't understand your comment 'apparently she was in a contract'? Of course she was, there is no service without a contract.

I meant 12 month contract. We were under assumption it was a rolling 30day thing, which VM have done in the past.

This can be the same for any provider. It depends on what you can negotiate.

You are saying that you thought the contract was for 30 days ?But it was a normal 12 months contract .
If that is the case then pay up as you are never going to prove that a special set of terms where actually advised by VM and not just wrongly assumed by you .

Fair point. (Text removed by MSE Forum Team). They tricked a vulnerable customer into it. They repeatedly lie, too. Im glad i no longer pay them for any services.
Have read of stories much worse than mine with VM.

You seriously thought that VM come and install the equipment and co-ax cabling, connect to the street cab and then only ask for a 30 day contract? Why would they do that?
Min term is always at least 12 months.

NO. Been with VM for many years prior to this incident. Phoned once to renogiate. And wasnt told of entering a new 12month contract. Many people with VM dont be on 12mth deals.
