A GP friend once mentioned that viruses don't survive in cold so use an ice cube several times per day.

    Absolute rubbish I'm afraid!

    Both for viruses in general

    30,000 years in Siberian ice.

And the cold sore virus in particular

Still found on cryosurgery equipment that goes down to -193oC!

Viruses are frozen in labs to preserve them for future study.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Gosh, how interesting. A constant battle by the people in the Labs to outwit nature:)

I think the ice cube thing would be useful for the relief of the itch/sting providing it is not held there for too long at a time.

As soon as I feel the tingle of a cold sore coming on, I apply coconut oil. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides and has antifungal/antibacterial/antiviral properties. It is able to penetrate lipid coated viruses/bacteria (which herpes simplex is).

Can't find any evidence to support this other than on sites selling coconut oil!

It's also a good idea to consume coconut oil too as the benefits are far better when you take it internally as well as applying externally.

But how does it know not to kill the natural gut flora - a lot of which are also lipid coated?

Drink Ginger tea its good for recover that problem fast.
  • Having read all the comments I will go to buy the lysine or whatever it is called but my problem is not on the outside, I have had a full mouthful of blisters for over a month, according to the doctor it is due to a steroid treatment I am taking and he has prescribed so many medicines to cure it, does anyone have any other advice, I look forward to hearing from you asap as it is very painful.
  • My hubby has suffered for years has now given up red wine and also has started with lysine and multi vitamins. Recommend buying Zovirax in Spain as it's half the price fron chemists, if you know anyone going out there
  • creams with the same active ingredient as zovirax, 5% aciclovir, are available on ebay, around £1.50-£2 each (less if you buy 2-3 at a time) under various different brand names. i've used virasorb & galpharm creams before with no issues.

I would always be very wary about buying stuff like that off Ebay.

Fake products exists, and are often pedaled this way. Plus - even if genuine, these things are very sensitive to storage conditions. You can't know how they've been stored when buying from an unknown source on the internet.
