Hi All,
I have developed the dreaded cold sore and I want to get rid of it before Saturday evening - do Boots have any effective remedies?
Thanks

Yes, Boots own-brand version of Zovirax is excellent and a good bit cheaper - you may need to ask the pharmacist for it.0

A couple of days should see a very big difference but it will take a bit longer to fully get rid of it.0

Zovirax ointment never works for me. Boots cold sore lotion (a strong alcohol based liquid) is good for drying up coldsores. I find Lysine tablets very effective in preventing cols sores. I rarely get them now, but when I do I overdose on Lysine tablets and apply Lysine ointment (in a petroleum jelly base) directly to the sore. Catch it early enough and it will stop it developing.
Lysine is a natural food supplement. I buy mine from Holland & Barrett.0 -
I've found blistex to be more effective
Works at both the first stage of tingling and also when it's blisteredThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I tend to rip the top off it, soak up the goop on a cotton pad, then dab it with the Cold Sore Lotion from Boots, or a dab of vodka, but apparently I'm mad and masochistic for this

Doesnt matter what i use it still takes 7 days for mine to disappear. I bought one of those red light things from Lloyds chemist and still a week to disappear.0

DH always uses Blistex, Zovirax doesn't work on him. He also has a light treatment device, which he uses when he gets the tingle and it works most times.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hi, I have struggled with cold sores all my life. The best one I find is Virasorb (99p in Bodycare, a little more elsewhere). I keep mine clean and free from infections using anti-bac hand gel.
Compeed cold sore patches are also great. I wear those of a night as I don't think they're very invisible.
Be sure to get lots of rest as stress will make it worse - as will touching or picking it.CC1: £1000 £826
