I think that you have misunderstood the purpose of the thread - what people are saying is that you can quite easily talk about your business model without plastering its contact details everywhere.

One step closer to world domination.

Is everyone looking forward to buying their Tesco built house from a Tesco estate agent so they can park their Tesco car outside it that they fill with Tesco fuel, paying with their Tesco credit card before they go to work for one of the many Tesco owned companies? :D

Yes but think about all those Tesco clubcard points!

but dont use them in store - go and use them for 3rd parties and they are worth 4 times as much. They (tesco) of course will own all of these companies by then and the growth continues.

Maybe they will do removals in the grocery vans, just book a 2 hour slot and your furniture will be sorted!

Seriously - I thought it was good that someone from tesco took the time to comment. I would be interested to hear how they will be advertising in store - will they display local properties or will they be keeping them separate?

Mark, thanks for your post. The major problem with this is one of oligopoly and oligopsony and it doesn't appear to be in the long term interest of consumers to favor the major player and reinforce those negative effects on long term competition.

For those reasons, while I am looking for a place, I will not be doing so at the Tesco service.

For others, oligopoly is where a few large sellers dominate and oligopsony where it's a few large buyers. Perhaps best illustrated by the way Tesco is carefully avoiding competing directly with Wal-Mart in the US, where Wal-Mart is in an even more dominant position than Tesco is in the UK.

James, you will look at Tesco's if per chance you were driving down the road and saw the Tesco's board outside your dream house.

    Ho ho ho.

Buying and selling houses is nothing like selling beans. So for your £200 you get a fancy board outside your house and the use of some web software in order that you can advertise your property. Big deal.

The fact is Tesco aren't SELLING anything apart from advertising, which is only the first stage in what can be a very long process. The real work of an agent starts when an offer is accepted, chasing lenders, solicitors, chains etc etc.

Statistically more chains WILL collapse with a Tesco vendor in than otherwise would be the case due to the fact that the vendor will be just left high and dry without any proper advice or guidance.

One other thing, who is responsible for all these adverts, as they will all fall within the Properties Misdiscriptions Act ? Tesco ? The Vendor ? One simple mistake is all it takes, calling a 3 bed with a loft room a 4 bed could land someone right in it when it all comes out of the woodwork. Are the vendors supposed to know all that ?

Also from a security point of view. Agents take the details of people viewing your property, and although done on trust, it is one line of defence against the theiving chav. With Tescos it seems like a few false details and Bobs your Uncle, a stream of layabouts casing your joint out with one eye on the Plasma !!

Not a great fan of agents but the majority are OK and for some the Tesco route will be what they want but they should be very aware of what the pitfalls can be by trying to sell a house in this way.

How do other posters feel about the moves of the consumer champion Tesco.

Very nieve statement. I know a guy responsible for all the 'price checking' in his store. He told me for every price he reduces (ie, as per the price checking initiative advertised), I increase 9 items!

Tesco and housing - we were told Direct Line would end insurance brokers - all those near me are still there. We were also told Exchange & Mart would end car dealerships - not.

I didnt spot Kenshaz's reference to Tesco being a consumer champion.

I wouldnt ever consider them to be a consumer champion. They destroy town centres, local economies, local produce and lifestyles. Not exactly the things you expect from a consumer champion.

Quite right dunstonh. Those that think that Tesco are the consumer champion had really better get their heads out of the sand.

I don't think they care at all who they walk over in order to acheive their aims. Farmers, communities, suppliers, and obviously the customer if the profit figures are anything to go by.

I gave up shopping at Tesco years ago because it is TOO EXPENSIVE. OK the staples are cheap, bread, milk etc but they've screwed the farmers on the milk and the bread ingredients are so cheap that you could only loosely term the end product as actual "bread".

Just go into a local greengrocers and see what they are charging for fruit and veg and you'll realise how much of a "consumer champion" Tesco is. Not.

I know it is popular to slag off the country's success stories but it is not Tesco that destroy town centres. It is customers who desert town centres in favour of misguided convenience and planners who allow ALL supermarkets to diversify without a fight.

    :)
