Tesco and the housing sector.

Tesco property market offers customers the choice of having full control over your home sale. It also provides potential buyers a great deal of information about prospective properties; aerial pictures, location of local schools, transport links and council tax information. The buyer is able to look at all of this before even arranging a viewing of the house.
Having online negotiations allows the sellers to achieve the best price for their property. The website offers comprehensive information guiding customers through the whole process of buying and selling their homes and consequently making the whole process a lot easier.
The website is a very new venture and the initial feedback we have had from customers is excellent!

The fee is significantly lower because the customer has to do all the work. How much use will Tesco be making of the client data?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct. It is yet another route to sell your property which can only be a good thing. The property market is evolving and the internet is pushing that evolution. Tesco's entering this market should also highlight other websites that offer the same service. Estate Agents will have to evolve to meet the competition and either offer a service that people are willing to pay for or a low cost option that will compete with Tesco'sI am a Mortgage Adviser

I don't know if it is a good thing - it will be like the little independent shops you never see any more, just Tesco Express. No estate agent could afford to sell houses at anything like £199 and stay in business.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct. Tesco are successful in what they do but it doesnt necessarily add value. The Tesco stakeholder pension is poor quality. House insurance can be beaten and no doubt other things they offer can too.
Time will tell if they offer quality or not in this area.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. BrightSale.co.uk wrote: »As stated in our press release of last week, we believe the private sales model in general has quite a few issues.
Our research over the past year or so has concluded that whilst keen to save as much as possible when selling a house, the majority of the British public would still like a real–live-human there to help should things go wrong with a sale or purchase.
We commend Tesco for entering this market and highlighting the fact that the internet is now a very real alternative for people thinking of selling property. However we are not sure that everything is as rosy as first appears for the consumer with the private sales websites.
As mentioned by a previous poster, this type of service is often a pay up front model. It will cost you £199 with Tesco whether you sell or not, and given that Tesco only appear to advertise their properties to one of the major portals (fish4) you are less likely to sell (statistically) than you would with a traditional agent who utilises one or more of the top 3 portals (rightmove, primelocation or propertyfinder).
I believe that the future of estate agency lies with true "online estate agents" like BrightSale but of course, I would say that.
We believe passionately in our ‘hybrid’ online estate agency model, whereby we offer a low fee (0.5% - no sale no fee) and sophisticated online tools, but back them with a team of experience property negotiators to ensure that you are not alone in the complex process of selling your home. We began BrightSale with the intention of offering a more open, honest yet supported way of selling property in the UK - and we believe we have built just that.
On the whole though, I'd love to see more people engaging in selling their property online whether that is with us or one of our competitors as it is becoming a very exciting industry. The greatest winners will certainly be consumers as more and more cost-effective estate agent alternatives are popping up all the time. At the very least, we will encourage traditional agents to change their ways.
If anyone has any more questions on online estate agency or selling property online, feel free to get in touch. You can reach me by email I will try to reply to every enquiry personally. For faster replies, you can try our service team on 0800 231 6363 and also email

is it "lets advertise our company day today"
If it is, can us advisers have an amnesty please - only joking! We would be stoned, put in the stocks and flogged and the world would collapse!
I seriously believe that there is room for all types of business models in todays world. I believe that the EA plays an important part of the process and have seen more boards in my town from companies that use the model that Tesco has employed.
The point where an agent comes in useful is to ensure that:
- Buyers are fully qualified for ability to buy
- Sellers can feel safe that they do not have to deal with the buyer directly - no intimidation through negotiation, harassment calls with silly basic
- Enquiries and timewasters are quickly identified
- Chains details are properly checked
- Ability to gain honest feedback
- Advertisement in the paper
- Advertisement on the UK's largest property sites
- Ability to take calls and ensure all buyers are chased
- Ability to provide feedback on "click through" rates on rightmove.
The problem with agents are that the good are few and far between. The bad are common and that the selling/buying process/laws can provide more then enough headaches!
So unless Tesco's or the similar companies aims are to bring a human touch with someone to do what normal agents do then there will be no competition as they will be attracting 2 different customer basesI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. So why have you highlighted your company name and e-mail, provided your phone number etc?
You can always add me to your ignore list.
Only t0ssers do that. I am prepared to read any posts, even if I don't agree with what is said.

Never mind the internet - I don't see why Tesco couldn't consider challenging estate agents on their actual home turf. How about a 'Local Houses For Sale' corner in every store..?
For sure, the smug world of real estate in the UK could do with a jolt. Maybe Tesco will supply it.0 -
One step closer to world domination.
Is everyone looking forward to buying their Tesco built house from a Tesco estate agent so they can park their Tesco car outside it that they fill with Tesco fuel, paying with their Tesco credit card before they go to work for one of the many Tesco owned companies?
