Agree with the poster above, you do not appear to have understood the issue.
I had a Baxi back boiler on an open fire integrated with a gas CH system.
To cut a long story short, it was more trouble than it was worth so I had it 'decommissioned' by a fully qualified Gas Registered plumber. He simply drained the water, disconnected and capped the pipes, and drilled several holes in the casing.
So I now have an open fire contained in a perforated double skinned metal jacket, with no water feed. What could cause a pressure build up to cause an explosion?0 -
I fully understand the question, they are ment to be used with water as are the openfire back boilers some use them as you say and are perfectly safe. Since 2008 HETAs and HSE have advised this is not to be done after a few exploded when decomissioned poorly, as the OP was clearly confused the best route to take is not to use it, the boiler jacket can also fail quickly as it is designed to be used full of water.
Almost every customer I have had with these complained of the lack of heat from them for the amount of fuel they consumed, we had one at home as a kid it barely kept 6/7 radiators warm no idea how much fuel it was using but I do remember mum setting the chimney alight more than once when trying to get some more heat out of it.0 -
Yes, I wanted to use it after it was disconnected and drained of water, with the pipe holes on either side left uncapped to let the air in/out.
I have now decided not to bother and I'm just going to sell it off now.0
