Thanks for all the useful replies guys. I'm gonna check out that black circles website. I've not heard of them before.

On the tyres I have it says: 195/65H15.

Just as a point of reference I typed in my car info to the Kwik Fit website. It's giving me a range of tyres from £49 to £63 per tyre, fitted and including VAT. This is the only website I've looked at so far. But has led me to another question. Apparently all the ones it has shown me are summer tyres. I obviously want my car to be safe in the wet/cold/ice when winter comes. Will summer tyres cut the mustard?

Sorry for coming across as a fool - I can actually do a number of small car related things. I'm not completely useless. But when it comes to things like the tyres - as others have mentioned this is the only point of contact with the road - I need to make sure I'm safe.

Having recently moved I need to find a garage I trust nearby. There is a kwik fit nearby, but trying to avoid the likes of kwik fit and halfords. I have found another garage that a neighbour recommended. I'm actually going to see them next week for them to sort out my air con. If I feel like they've done a decent job at a decent cost I'll ask them about the tyres. If I feel like they've ripped me off, then it'll be back to the drawing board in terms of finding a garage.

Summer tyres will be better than winter or all season tyres in "summer" (temperatures above 7 degrees C), but winter tyres will be better than all season tyres which will be better than summer tyres in temperatures below 7 degrees C. However, the difference in winter will be bigger than in summer, so if you were to use one set all year round it makes sense from a grip point of view to get the winter tyres.

Not always, I'm scouring the web for the best deals on tyres for one of the fleet and kwik-fit is the cheapest!!! Usually I use mytyres, camskill etc with local fitting. To say I'm shocked is an understatement.

    Cheers

Kwik-fit are actually usually OK for tyres - but that's about all ! Just let them do the tyres and don't believe all the bovine excrement they'll give you about how every other component on your car is a death trap and must be replaced immediately.

To the OP, it's also worth finding if you have a mobile tyre fitter available locally. I've used some in the past, very convenient as they come to your home or workplace, and their prices are often very competitive.

If you can find a trustworthy local independent garage locally then great - it'll stand you in good stead when you need any other work doing. The best way to find one, as always, is ask friends and neighbours.

Slightly off topic, but in looking for a set of tyres I go through a short list of suppliers to see who is best. Blackcircles search just came back as;"Well this is embarrassing; it appears we have no tyres in stock for that size.
Although our stock does not contain a tyre in that size right now, we will try our best to source one for you - our sales team can be contacted on 0845 620 2000."
I checked another couple of sites and went back (in case it was a glitch) and same response. Not the rarest of tyres so unbelievable they don't have any. Maybe the Tesco influence now messing up Blackcircles.

Definitely Tesco's influence. Blackcircles.com used to be one of the best online tyre retailers before their Tesco deal, with much broader choice.

Watch this space for Tesco Everyday Value branded tyres. One size fits all.
