Jet2 won't let me checkin online for flights!

Hi all
I'm probably just being paranoid but would appreciate some reassurance!
I'm due to fly with Jet2 to Malaga on Monday. I went to checkin online and I get a message saying that standard seating is not available for my booking and that I've been transferred to airport checkin free of charge.
I called Jet2 and have been told that they only allow 90% of passengers to checkin online. After that, the remainder gets automatically switched to airport check-in.
Which now means I have to get to the aiport at least an hour earlier than planned to check in. I don't mind that too much but I'm a bit worried about the flight now. You hear about overbookings etc and I worry abou that kind of thing!
Has anyone had any experience of this?
Thanks

This does normally mean overbooking, which is pretty likely at this time of year. Is the flight still available to book? I wouldn't worry too much, people often fail to take the flight, even after checking in.0

Thanks tomtontom. The flight is still available to book. The flight the day before is fully booked and not available to book. Maybe expecting passengers from the day before booking on to the Monday flight?
Ironically, I CAN check in online if I pay for an extra legroom seat which is still available. I'm tempted to do this and save the stress but annoying that I have to pay for a seat I don't want or need, just for peace of mind. Grrr!!0 -
yes this happened to me a few months back. I rang them and asked why seats were available for online booking if I paid but not if I just wanted random allocation and didn't really receive an explanation. I don't think it's anything to do with overbooking but it is annoying that you have to arrive at the airport extra early even if you are handluggage only which was the case (no pun intended!) with us0

As far as I know Jet2 doesn't overbook.0

Are there no other seats apart from extra leg room seats that you can pre-book?
It sounds to me that all the standard seats have booked, so only the extra leg room are left, which is normally charged a higher price. Rather than let you have these for free, Jet2 will probably wait to see if anyone does book them online, or see if anyone will be willing to pay to upgrade when they get to the airport and drops off their bags. If someone pays to upgrade, you will then be allocated that passengers standard seats at check in. Obviously if nobody pays to upgrade, and they are the only seats left on the plane you will get them anyway!
Not sure if this is how it works but seems a logical reason maybe.Lea0 -
I flew with jet2 a few months ago and we couldn't check in online but no probs getting checked in when we got to the airport. Quick and hassle free.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Overbooking is not a practice typically employed by the leisure low cost airlines (although hover say never). Lea2012 has the most plausible explanation.
Also, getting to the airport earlier (or planning extra time in) is no bad thing. I'd always rather be relaxed with a beer and some time to kill than stressed about an unforeseen circumstance and potentially missing my flight!0 -
As far as I know Jet2 doesn't overbook.
We were overbooked on PMI to LBA (they explained as computer error) so agreed to go PMI to MAN. Jet2 did not pick up our extra car park charge at LBA .....BUT we agreed to £100 each (4 of us) and taxi from MAN to LBA.
We were not the last in the queue at check-in at PMI so thought it was unusual when the Jet2 rep asked if we would mind if the few people behind us went ahead of us in the queue - it was only after we said it wasn't a problem that we realised there was a 4 seat shortfall hence the reason we had been asked to step aside!0
