GRP Flat Roof Quote

Hi,

I have had a quote from Everest to replace an existing flat roof over porch and garage (34m2) with GRP and it is "half price" at £5500, which was far more then I was expecting. That would be ~£161 per sq m at the price and if you believe the "half price" story, £322 per sq m before.

I have a distinct feeling this is a complete rip off, but obviously I have nothing to base that on, so I was looking for opinions on whether this is a rip off, reasonable or a good price. If it is a rip off, what sort of price should I be looking for?

Thanks.

Andrew.

  • My double garage at 6x5m cost £1200 but...

I asked for roll mops on mine which I think make the garage roof looks a bit more modern and also gives it that lead effect.

What would the guarantee be on the roof as I think you can get them for 30 years now.

  • Sounds very very steep! try a local fitter. 35 year guarantee on ours, great service.

Have a look on the NFRC website for a local installer. 5500 sounds pretty steep

The guarantee does not matter, a well laid roof done in fg will last "forever "as far as you are concerned

Forever being the length of time theses guys are trading.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

As above, well laid fibreglass will go on for a very long time. There are thousands of very old fibreglass boats out there where the grp is still good and a flat roof won't take anywhere near as much abuse as a boat hull. I have a 30 year old GRP boat and the hull is still in excellent condition.

I did a relatives garage roof in May this year, it was around 23sqmtrs

The cost including replacing the rotted roof with OSB, most of the cross joists, all the fixings, glass profiles for edging and the CSM and resins, topcoats and all tools, (many 6" rollers, compacting roller and disposable buckets, gloves etc), came out at around £820.

Roughly £350 for the roof repairs and £470 for the Fibreglass.

Easy if you have done it before but it is the single messiest job you could ever wish to tackle, not for everyone but we managed to pick 5 days of fantastic weather, too warm infact. Took 2 of us old gits 4 days to complete, looks far better than the felt it replaced.
