BA complaint

Hi everyone,

Jut wonderng has anyone else recently made a complaint to BA about holidays?.
Myself and mum just returned from 10 day in New York as a suprise for my 40th birthday.
The cutomer service we recieved was shocking from the second we checked in and left us disgusted.
The check in clerk was rude beyond belief and shouted at us on check in because we asked to be seated together his responce was ' you sit where i want you to sit' he then shouted at me for lifting my mums case onto the luggage belt saying 'no i said her do it'. mum has rhumatoid arthritus in her hands so cant grip or lift that well. When we asked once again if we could sit together and didnt mind paying extra he replied ' what dont you understand i said you sit where i want you to sit'. I left the desk crying as was so embaressed as other cutomers heard and commented on it and also a im scared of flying hence the need to sit together.
On the flight a memeber of cabin crew was more bothered about telling other staff about the affair she was having and not happy with as he refused to leave his wife and she didnt want to be a mitress!!!.
Is this usual of BA crew?.
On the way home the american clerk was amazing as i was upset again aid he would ensure we sat together even if he gave us a free upgrade which we didnt care about in honesty.
Then he said as Vip's were on the flight this wasnt posible so, he would try seating u together.
The flight had already been cancelled so we got bumped to another, later that evening with seats together.
There were a few spare seats and the guy next to u asked to move for more leg room, he was told maybe.
Just befor take of some people at in the empty rows and hand luggage said ba cabin crew. They then had 3 rows of 4 seat to lay out in all the way home whilst thers friends visited from first class with chanpagne and nibbles.
Am i just being picky or is this bad service?.
It really took the whole shine of the holiday and my mum didnt realise she needed to pay extra to garantee seat together a she had already paid £4500 for the trip.

Ive sent a letter today outlining why i felt customer service issues need to be addressed and asked for a reponse from them.
I hope they listen as wouldnt want anyone else to feel the way they have made us feel.
We wont be travelling Ba again!!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and have never had to lift my case onto belt when travelling with my OH. Travelled with loads of different airlines. I am sorry but I find this rather hard to believe.

My husband always lifts the cases I do the paperwork, the check in agents don't actually work for BA they work for one of the companies like Servisair. We had a similar crabby check in assistant a couple of years ago I was just uber polite said thanks and smiled really didn't give him the reaction he wanted. I always think they have a carp job and I am off on holiday so you are not spoiling my day..

The whole rant is hard to understand, and even harder to believe. No, that is not how BA do things.

If sitting together was important to you, why did you not select your seats and check in on-line the day before travel: no fee for that?

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

At LHR and JFK the check in staff are employed by BA. Not sure about EWR.

I would agree with the latter two responses, while BA are far from perfect I don't believe the check in agent was as rude as stated. BA will probably respond to the complaint offering 5,000 BAEC miles each, which won't be worth much if the OP is not going to use them again.
  • Thanks for your replies, I guess unless you were there then you wouldn't understand at all. As some others pointed out they found it hard to believe yes so did I especially when we were being spoken to in such a way and I was scolded for lifting mums case up. Also when booking the holiday my mother wasn't aware that she could pay to get seats together, as it wasn't explained to her or she didn't hear as was listening to other stuff etc. perhaps we could have done this if I had known we were going away but alas as it was a suprise I didn't find out until the night befor we flew, and only in error as ba called to change our flight and the customer service advisor got myself and mum muddled up on the booking asking to speak to me rather than mum who was the lead name. Your a hard bunch, I ask for advice not for people to assume I'm a liar!!.

It's classic BA! And they want another runway at Heathrow to inflict more of this on people !

And I hope they get it and I'll be under the expected flight path in twickenham.

There are always unacceptable experiences but I am luckily yet to experience.

Next year I'll be taking my wife and newborn to New York in first class thanks to avios and I can't !!!!!!! wait!

I have been desperately trying to find a clean video of Pam Ann on you tube , but failed miserably ! She has some of the major world airlines staff off to a Tee ! lol

    Cleanest one is here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EuP5zdpNCM

Just be aware, if you click on any other ones from Pam Ann, I take no responsibility about any upset it may cause, especially if you look at the virgin stewardess M&S ad one ! lol

I have found in the past that complaining to BA is a complete waste of time just bring ignorance or arrogance from them.

But don't let me stop you I would still complain everytime I have a complaint even if I think I am wasting my time.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
