NPOWER Bill has arrived after 16 months!!

After months of calling and asking for a bill, I've finally received one!

The period is from 9th Feb 2013 to 4th June 2014. The bill is for dual fuel and amounts to £2397. £1418 of this is electric and £979 is gas.

This seems awfully high given the mild minter we've had and the fact that our home is only a 3 bed semi.

We have an economy 7 meter even though we don't have storage heaters so we're probably not on the right tariff.

My actual electricity meter readings on the 9th Feb 2013 were 46358 (day) and 13335 (night). Day rate is 14.93p and night is 6.07p.

My readings taken today are 53313 (day) and 15242 (night).

The gas reading on 9th Feb 2013 was 759 and today it is 1382.

Can anybody do the calculations for this to see if it seems about right?

Thanks in advance.

  • Remember you'll need to allow for any standing charges.

  • Electricity (Day)
    (53313 - 46358) * 0.1493 = £1038.38

    Electricity (Night)
    (15242 - 13335) * 0.0607 = £115.75

    Gas
    (1382 - 759) * ? = £?

    Oh yes, sorry!

295 days 34.10p per day standing charge
    56 days 23.29p
    130 days 12.33p
  • How about the cost of Gas (per cubic metre or cubic foot)?

If the bill is correct, my next question would be can they bill me for the full 16 months even though I haven't had a bill until now?
  • 7MWh of electricity in 16 months is quite a lot. Especially when your day rate is expensive.

You'd almost certainly benefit from a single rate tariff.

We've tried to get on to a cheaper tariff but they can't do it until they've changed our meter so we're stuck paying £165 per month.

If you can prove you have repeatedly asked for a bill and they haven't sent one, then I believe the back billing rule would apply in your case, so they can only bill for a year.

Call them and tell them you think this is the case and see what they say.

Stuck? Could you not ask them to change your meter? Or change supplier - other suppliers (BG, edf and SSE to name 3) will just total the current readings without changing meter.
