Why would you enter a competition for a family holiday if you did not have a family?

My "kids" are 19 and 23 so I would never enter that type of comp the same as I would never enter for a family day pass to Alton Towers or Flamingo Land ect

I would feel so bad knowing I have cheated Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs and there 6 year old twins out of a holiday they really would have loved to win.

There are loads of foreign holidays, romantic weekends, 2 night stays in hotels, spa breaks ect aimed at young/older couples who do not have kids. ;)

The same thing can be said for any win though?

i.e. I could enter and win someting that's no use to me, sell it for a little bit of money but someone else may have really treasured/appreciated or could have done with it.

I agree totally, we all comp differently (although I think you would find it hard to sell a holiday)

It was just my personal opinion. I would not enter comps for kids items or wedding items and many other comps that are aimed at a "specific" winner.

In the same breath I would enter to win a £500 BBQ to sell it.

Each to their own, I am not judging anyone, it was just my opinon ;)

I'll usually ask on twitter if I feel they actually mean a family to mean 'up to...' (there was a recent Virgin Hols one which was certainly not a family trip as such, and another recent holiday with Morrisons for a trip to Tobago which again I didn't necessarily feel would be a 'family only' type hol.

Both sent friendly replies saying not just for families and fine for just couples to enter (I do wish they'd say that!).

They are few and far between though - most family ones are aimed at families. As above, if there was lots aimed at children on the holiday and it was obviously for families, I'd definitely skip it as I'd much rather they win.

Definitely wouldn't enter anything from Wedding mags (have entered by mistake a couple of times on twitter! Oops!) or for babies/kids.

I always struggle with family holidays, because we are a family of three (2 adults and a 19 month old) but alot of family holidays are for 2 adults and 2 children, so I never know whether it's moral for me to enter or not!

As it stands, I am pregnant with my husband and I's second child but for the past year and a half I haven't known what to do with regards to there only being three of us!

I think these days that the word 'family' can mean so many things that it's daft to take it to always mean Mr & Mrs and their 2 children. That is not the reality for a huge section of the population and I suspect the competition organisers just put that for the sake of having to put something - otherwise the permutations would be lengthy and complicated! As has been said many times before they're always open to negotiation anyway. I enter family holiday comps depending on the destination - my family is my family. It's not 2.4 children but it's my family and I don't feel I'm robbing anyone else of the chance. Scrottocks to that for a concept - the minute all this starts being a massive guilt trip or fraught with ethical worries then it really isn't fun anymore! :)

I enter for everything and worry about it when I win it as to the terms.
