Ford Ka - heater won't turn off!!!!!!!!
Comments
-
I had a look under the bonnet this evening and couldn't work out which bit related to the heater control:o
As I said, haven't a clue and really don't want to waste any money on it as the car isn't worth much.
Could you give me a pointer as to where the cable to the heater box might have come disconnected?
Thanks.
what you would need to do is if you have a torch you need to look behind the centre console where the heater dial would be located, you should see a biggish black box and should see a couple of cables running to it, what you are looking for is too see if the cable has popped off or broken the cable should have
a hoop which clips onto heater box which in turn moves the flaps inside the heater box if they are ok then it is most likely going to be the heater control valve but best to check what I have told you, if you get stuck i'll try and help you further.0 -
Please ignore the rubbish above You need a new heater control valve, cheap and off the shelf from a Ford dealer or decent factor. Second hand is just delaying the same fault.0

Thank you for the info, will do that tomorrow.
If it is just a cable that has come off, that would be brilliant. Knowing my luck, I doubt it thought:(Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Thanks colino, it isn't the cost of the part that is putting me off, it is the labour charge to have it fitted.:eek:Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
The part is really cheap (it is rubbish!) so fitting a new one costing you £25 or a used one that cost you a tenner but will also quickly fail will both cost you an hours labour.0

Here Colino don't be an !!! about it we both are trying to help this
damsel in distress here, experience tells me its a heater control
valve but I am not ruling out other possibilities here as not every
car may have the same problem as I have found out in the past.0 -
On refection as the damsel is in distress, I'll continue to be an !!! (hope that's the correct spelling). Or on this money saving site do you want the OP to say to a tech, "It could be three things, could you charge me additional labour to look at all of them, then fix the fault that you know from your skills, experience and knowledge that it will be?"0

And Focus too.0 -
Colino since your on about money saving which I was trying to
give to the op because as the heater control valve are common
but coming from a experienced vehicle tech that would be the first
two things I would be checking as it only takes a couple of minutes to inspect and if I found they were ok then I would say
it was the valve as I wouldn't want to misdiagnose it by the way.
And that would be something she or her partner could check
without having to book into a garage and get charged x amount
of pounds for something that could of been sorted in two minutes
see what I mean, I would expect the tech to be checking these if I had
booked it into a garage and I would be annoyed if they said it was say
the valve and later told me that they misdiagnosed it just to tell me it
was in fact is one of the above that I have mentioned to you
(not that I would admit it) but can happen(usually warranty
stuff) mind you I couldn't do that to a customer as I've seen
too much b/s in the past and would feel guilty. I wouldn't
read too much into the !!! as it wasn't too offensive.0 -
Perhaps it would be handy for the motoring forum to have a sticky showing the details needed for the car (Make, model, engine size, transmission and value) as well as a brief outline of the problem. Spanner twirlers would learn from others posters past experience and get down to the root of the problem itself and quizzical others would get the money saving benefit: That is, in this case for example, they could go to a friendly, local, recommended, independent garage and say. "My Ford Ka is running great, it doesn't overheat or use water, but it has a small problem in that the heater gives full heat irrespective of the dash controls. Could you give it a quick check over, I've heard that the heater control valves are a common fault, perhaps once you''ve checked, you can give me a quote for fixing the heater fault?"
Benefit and money saving result is that the owner feels better informed and tech knows he is not dealing with a plum that he can add spurious replacement parts to pad the bill.0
