Ford Ka - heater won't turn off!!!!!!!!

It has been playing up for the past few years, but usually if I turn the dial around to the hottest setting and then twist it back really quickly it solves the problem - well sort of, not completely.

However, this year whatever I do it just remains absolutely red hot:mad:

Being female I know nothing of fixing cars and as it is ten years old just not worth getting a garage to look at it.

Has anyone else experienced this with Ford Ka's? I am thinking that perhaps a pipe or hose has come off or somehow got disconnected behind the heater control, but it all seems to be impossible to get at to see.

It gets so unbearably hot and even the dashboard feels
scorchio:(

Common problem with fords heater control valve needs replacing. Not a big job
  • It could be one of the three things
1: the cable to the heater box has either fallen off.
2: the actual heater box mechanism is broken and is permantly stuck in the hot position.
3: the heater valve has become faulty (very common for this)
    hope this helps you.

this is going to sound really backwards but how much fluid is in the radiator circuit?
my old escort used to do this and it usually meant the radiator fluid needed topping up.

Radiator fluid is fine, right up to the max line.

  • This will be the heater control valve, common problem on fiesta and puma as well. Buy a Ford one as cheap ones don`t last 5 minutes.

Should be less than an hours labour at a garage or if you google it you may be able to do it yourself.

I had a look under the bonnet this evening and couldn't work out which bit related to the heater control:o

As I said, haven't a clue and really don't want to waste any money on it as the car isn't worth much.

Could you give me a pointer as to where the cable to the heater box might have come disconnected?

    Thanks.

Heater on during this type if weather is not a good look!
  • My Fiesta did the same a while back, I went to the local scrappie and pulled a second hand heater control valve out of a car that had been crashed, cost me a fiver, and took me about 15 min to replace.

Not my vid, but does yours have this?

  • you need to take the wiper panel cover off its under there. 1 connector and 2 pipes. the plastic will break taking the pipes off and by memory i think theres an awkward nut/bolt keeping it in place
