Don't be silly.

Just fill it with diesel. Any remnants of petrol will soon be washed out and will probably do your engine some good

I have a couple of jerry cans:

Green - Petrol
Black - Diesel

I keep a mix of 2-stroke for a generator in a red jerry can with 2-Stroke written in black letters on the side in permanent marker. I don't actually know the correct colour for 2-stroke, but I think red is the colour for four star??? Never owned a vehicle that runs on four star, so shouldn't be an issue.
