Just buy a Freeview recorder. You have access to all the "Catch Up" services already through your SMART TV and (probably) the Blu-Ray player also.

I repeat my advice for you Susan1942 - ANY 'Youview' branded box will do you nicely. There's a TalkTalk one, that I think they give out with TV subscriptions, but I've heard it's a bit slow anyway.
They will all record 2 things at a time, and you can also watch something on demand or off the drive, or watch one, record one. This is because they (and many other PVRs (Personal Video Recorders)) are twin tuner, which your friend may have mentioned.
You got Smart stuff included in your Samsung TV, and the Youview box also has Smart things built in, in particular the on demand stuff is integrated into the TV guide - instead of going forward in time to select something to record, you can just go backwards in it to find something you missed, and select it to watch on demand.

Thanks for that useful information I like to be able to stop a programme and run it back if necessary and also run the adverts forward So basically you are saying with my TV I don't need to spend a fortune I see Humax and Pansonic advertised so will choose something that will do the job I need and I know I don't make as much use of the Smart TV as I could do Think I forget it but I am very happy to have a 46 " in my living room and my Sony 32" resides in the bedroom
Again thank you for very direct advice Sue

Refurbished Humax YouView boxes from £130 - they all have the features I described to you, including 'Live Pause' that you just described. I never advised any Panasonic boxes...

Also, have a look at Richer Sounds, as if you sign up for their emailed newsletter, you can have an extra £10 off the price. This even applies if you buy and ex-display model, as I did with my speakers.

They gave you a mug? Or they took you for one? :D

Seriously, I think you've made a good purchase from an excellent retailer.
