Public Liability insurance for scrapbooking meetings

I organise and run scrapbooking meetings. Up to 20 of us get together once a month or so and spend the day scrapbooking (that's sticking things on square bits of card to make pretty layouts to the uninitiated!).

I used to run the meetings at a venue that provided public liability insurance, but now want to run it at another venue. The new venue say I must have PL insurance.

All the websites I've looked at are aimed at businesses, but this is just a hobby. I do charge people a few pounds to attend, but this is to cover my costs; I don't run these events to make money.

Does anyone have experience of getting PL insurance for anything similar?

Not a recommendation as I've never dealt with them but have seen them mentioned a few times before:

    http://www.craftinsurance.co.uk/insurance-membership-club-associations-societies-groups/

The above page is for their clubs/ association type setups.

Unfortunately when they are insuring you for £2m and they are a business then you arent going to find it for pennies

The best way (if possible) may be for your club to join a larger (possibly national) club or organisation which negotiates a deal with an insurer to cover any member clubs for much cheaper than they would do individually; but I have no idea whether any such clubs exist in your type of hobby.

    Thanks for the replies.

I've shopped around and so far the best quote is around £80 a year. I don't need to get the insurance for a couple of weeks yet so I'll wait and see if anything better turns up.

Thanks for the link, which goes to Ian W Wallace Ltd.

Unfortunately I don't quite fit their criteria as I'm not running a club with members per se: anyone can come along to my scrapping meetings.

    Will keep looking...

You could try http://www.accessunderwriting.co.uk. I'm going through them at the moment for public liability insurance and they've been really good. My situation isn't listed on their site so it's worth getting in touch with them if you can't see what you want on the site.
